Definitely not. You could divide by ten and you're even too high, sorry ;-)
Unfortunately, most of the diode lasers even do not reach anything near 5000h. Some of them may be rated for something like that, but in reality they never reach it, not even close. If you don't believe it, ask the...
Many thanks for all your inputs ;-)
I agree with what's been said about gas lasers, but: HeNes have a way better beam quality than most dpss lasers and the lifetime of a HeNe can exceed 20000 hours! I would like to see a solid state laser with that lifetime. HeNe is still present in laboratories...
Dear Laserfriends
just saw on ebay a yellow HeNe for US$200, maybe someone is interested. Please note, this is not my offer, so I don't guarantee for anything at all. Seems there is no power supply with it, but this should be easily found or self-made.

The capacitors in the shown schematic are not a ballast, they are for achieving 50Hz/60Hz resonance for producing big arcs.
Sooner or later the insulation will break down if you put 4 transformers in series. normally they are earthed on the inner side of the high voltage windings at the core...
Hello Marco
I would not try to remove the shunts, because your MOT will overheat very very quickly without the shunts and most certainly it will blow your fuse. If you want to draw big arcs, you could compensate the leakage inductance by adding two paralleled microwave capacitors (2µf) in...
Many thanks for your kind feedback, Sigurthr!
Heating was not an issue at the MMC, but after a longer run I realized, the nails in the primary were heating enough for melting the plastics of the primary holders for the copper tube. I didn't solve this so far. Also the bleeder resistors on the...
I would like to share with you a small DRSSTC I built last year. Spark legnth is a bit more than 1 meter. The coil is not optimally tuned and I didn't take the time to build it entirely with case and so on, because I'm in the building process of a small QCW DRSSTC at the moment, which will be...
Even if you had a bottle of pure Xenon at your fingertips, it would be impossible to build your Xe-Laser. Manufacturers use high vacuum pumping stations which alone cost more than you can pay, and even such a high vacuum pumping station will suck several days before you get the required vacuum...
Hello H2Oxide
I haven't been here for a while, so I saw your thread only now.
Congrats to the buy of these lasers. Just the yellow one is the money worth I think ;-) I'm pleased you got the ebay-offer  Enjoy your beams!
Best regards
argon
Very nice laser head! I especially love the history behind it.
in the past I had a Melles Griot 643 Whitelight-Laser ArKr. It was a beauty, but I gave it away to another laser-freak, because I didn't had the time for periodic runs and the tube pressure got higher and higher. Nevertheless, some...
Thank you guys for your tips regarding 612nm.
Maybe someone is inteersted in the following auction on ebay. Three HeNes, red, green and yellow, unfortunately in "unknown condition":

Mattronium, you must be joking ;-) Just for a simple toy this is enough money. It was an auction at ricardo.ch, a swiss auction line, something similar like Ebay. At first it started at 50 CHF, but then it got higher and higher. Honestly, I wouldn't spend much more than this. Anyway, it is in...
Wow, many thanks for all your answers! I didn't think this would so many reactions :-)
The costs for the complete system were 152 CHF, which is about 158 Dollar. It is rather expensive, compared with argon lasers for example, even though argon lasers are more complicated technology in my...
Dear Laserfreaks out there
After some time of Laser-absence, I've got a new toy, it's a HeNe with yellow beam. It came in the original packaging and I think it has been more or less unused. Manufacturing date was Oct 2006 according to a sticker.
Here some pics:
...and some pics of the...
There are also argon lasers with hard sealed mirrors, but these also have to be run every month. But actually I'm not sure if HeNes really need the monthly burn, because I had never problems starting a HeNe. Maybe this is not as critical with a HeNe due to the higher burning voltage of the tube...
