I updated the picture to point out the glue just so everyone can see it. I appreciate the chloroform offer. I think I just might try soaking it in goo-gone over night and see what happens and post back with the results.
You can see how the training lens on the right seems to have some sort of clear glue around the edges making it impossible to unscrew that back piece.
I think the regular lens is also similarly glued with epoxy. So I cant modify either of them without breaking the glass :-(
It's like a screw that's been dipped in glue and then screwed in. I don't think I'll be able to scrape it off because I can't even see it. I don't have access to chloroform :-(
Maybe I should just smash the lens? Damn this sucks.
There are people recommending removing the lens from the "training lens" by unscrewing the the brace from the inside.
Well I just got my G2 yesterday, and it looks to me that my lenses are epoxied closed. I cannot "unscrew" the training lens out no matter how hard I try.
Does anyone else have...
Ordered June 9th, got my laser yesterday (G2). So far I am very happy, the packaging material looks kinda shoddy, but otherwise this thing feels very well made.
I've seen you mention that Optronics lasers are built in the USA, but this person disagrees with you. I couldn't find manufacturing details on their website.
How do you know they are built in the USA?
I was referring to his web shops only requirement. If you buy through a member you are still supporting DYI by proxy. And I didn't say it was so insulting, I said kinda insulting... sheesh.
Thank you very much for this review as I am currently trying to decide between these two exact pens.
You say that the extra $95 was worth it, however I think you must consider the fact that you got an extra overpowered pen from optotronics. Would it still be worth the $95 if the optotronics pen...
Coming on a DIY forum and saying "NO DIY" is kinda insulting :-p
It is true though... you will have a hard time finding a quality, decent priced, and high powered bluray laser from any web store. Either buy one from a forum member or build your own!
