    445nm issues (I killed it...)

Ok so, some of you recall I built a pair of lasers not long ago, a 445nm and a 462nm. I put the wrong batteries in the 445nm (derp), and killed it. Question now is just how I killed it. I thought it was the driver, Mohrenberg was cool enough to set another up for me and shipped it to me. I...

Breaking the Class 4 barrier: 445nm & 462nm added to the family.

Well folks! I have finally taken the leap and ventured into Class 4 territory. Thanks to DTR and Mohrenberg, I am the proud owner of two 501B hosts, one housing a 445nm A-type M140, the other a 462nm M462. I must say, I am overly impressed with what I have assembled! Intense beams, super bright...

    Homemade tripod mount for lasers

Ok, the creativity bug apparently bit me hard these last couple days. First the laser beam trap tube, and now I made some tripod mounts for my lasers. If any of you are into firearms, you may have this same stuff lying around, and if not, you can buy any of this at Walmart, Academy, etc...

    Laser Trap (pic heavy)

Ok, so I was thinking, I want some thing I can aim a laser into, contain the beam, and give me a safe area for the dot, something that will not catch fire or reflect back to me. Seems such a device would make it safer for me, especially when firing up a laser for the first time. So I decided to...

    650nm: Second build success

Assembled my second laser today, and it went like clockwork! Could not have asked for an easier build, unless it assembled itself. So, here is what I've got: Host: S4 Driver:445mA Driver & Pill Diode: 650nm ML101U29 red diode As advertised, this diode is capable of 400mW. Recommended to give it...

    Bragging on some good companies

I wanted to take a moment and brag on 3 companies I have recently done business with. I purchased a Nitecore i4 charger and a few RCR123A and 18560 batteries from Illumination Supply. Ordered last Thursday, shipped same day, and the package arrived Saturday. Fast service! I picked up two 501-B...

Beam pics of my LaserPointerPro 532nm

I bought this handheld before seeing many of our forum members warning against them. I have to say, this transaction went well, and I am happy with the product. Maybe I got lucky? It is supposed to me 200mW, no clue since I don't have an LPM yet. It does have a nice bright beam, I like it!

Beam pics of my first build.

Finally got some pics of my first build in action. I think my camera was being generous, the beam looks a little brighter in the pics than it did to my eyes. Edit: Took pics with a proper lens, I didn't see much difference really. Swapped this over to an S4 host as well. Edit#2: Added match...

Attemped my first laser build last night...and failed...

So, I finally got brave and decided to try my hand at assembling my own laser. I ordered a C6 host from Survival Laser (excellent all around btw, I have nothing but good to say about their stuff!), which arrived ahead of schedule, always a plus. My original plan was to use a red...

Silicone dielectric compound for thread lubrication

Ok, I searched around for suggestions regarding lubrication of the threads on an aluminum host. You know how it is, the end cap/switch feels gritty when you unscrew it. I know the end cap often has to ground to the rest of the host, so it seems to me the lubricant should be a good conductor...

    Anyone WoW players around?

I was wondering if any of my LPF comrades play World of Warcraft. If so, what realm? Might be fun to catch up and goof around in game. WoW is actually why I am on this forum atm, since Tuesday is patch/update day, and the servers will be down until at least 1pm my time :yabbmad:

Golden Orb PC CPU heatsink host

I decided a couple weeks ago to see what goodies I could salvage from the old PCs I have lying around. I had completely forgotten I had this heatsink. It is fairly large, about 4.5" in diameter, and about 3" deep. The solid area in the center is about 1.75" in diameter and maybe 1" deep...
