Trying to make up my mind about something and I thought I'd ask the opinion of the forum. Here's the situation: Linkedin keeps sending me a job recommendation for an engineering position at a rapidly growing laser company that happens to be within driving distance of my home. They've been...

    Side clickies have their disadvantages.......

Well darn. My EDC, (PLP520-B1), has died a thermal death. My wife and I were trying to figure out where the smell of burning paper was coming from on Sunday. I now understand it was from my jacket. My poor laser got stuck on (again) and I had the good (NiZn) batteries in it. Darn near lit...

Sooner or later the banhammer is gonna fall

Found this in my laserist facebook feed. Don't know if this link will work: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2438121779597324&set=a.204037943005730&type=3&eid=ARA3qmXtPuaLGJeTyXlmuCUoe2uaMPf_xKjUcbCxqDLv-esfXHEdI_rz96lXCDtrU2cU-43bdorZ5vL5

    Another bad idea

Anybody seen the "Night Hero" binoculars? ( https://www.target.com/p/as-seen-on-tv-atomic-night-hero-binoculars/-/A-53808231 ) I saw these in wally world last night while I was waiting in line at the register and saw the words "night vision laser" on the box so I checked it out wondering...

    Sigh, another one.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/20/health/laser-pointer-eye-hole-study/index.html Why do kids seem to feel the need to stare into a laser pointer? And no one tell the doctor they interviewed for the story that there are now 7+ watt handhelds available, OK? Poor kid.

    I'm baaaack

Well, that was.... interesting. I blew a disk in my neck and I've been off-line for a couple months. It took my right arm away for a few scary weeks but fortunately, this is a common enough problem that 'they' have gotten very good at repairing it. Outpatient surgical clinic right between an...

    Finally making a little progress...

Finally making a little progress on the TEC cooled '07 I've been wanting to put together. The host will be an old bar code scanner gun. @ 12volts in, with the TEC wired in series with the driver input, diode current is @ 3 amps, output power is about 3.5 watts, and the diode is sitting at 12...

    New form of plasma speaker

Well this is interesting. When the system is refined maybe we can compete with the musical tesla coil guys: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/03/non-lethal-weapon-dod-seeks-to-use-lasers-to-create-shouting-will-o-the-wisp/

    Ain't karma a b*tch

So apparently Fresno is not the place to play 'shine the laser at the helicopter' games....But what pilots have suffered permanent disability due to a laser strike as stated toward the end of the article...

    Possibly impossible?

All the high power blue (and now green) diodes are multi-mode. Would it be possible, even in theory, to use an external cavity to tame one of these diodes and select a single output mode? Even at the cost of 90% of the power obtainable from multi-mode operation I'd like to have a single mode...

Who thought this was a good idea?

With publicity like this: Hard time for man who fired laser pointer at CHP aircraft | Ars Technica I expect toys like the 301s to become a little harder to get. Coming soon to an ebay store near you the All New Laser 3011 pointer. But seriously, idiots like this are gonna make life hard for...

    Death of another BDR-209

So, I was testing the water cooled module I flanged up for my wife's fabric cutter. Driver was @ 600mA as I received it from Jordan. All was well, but in my innate monkey curiosity I thought, "these GaN diodes tend to put out quite a bit more power when they're cold, I'll add some ice to the...

    Just Curious

I just noticed that I've 'graduated' to "class 2 laser" in the line below my username. My thanks to whichever moderator has promoted me! I'm just curious as to what I've done to deserve this honor :thanks:
