    Stripping Anodise With Hydroxide

Depends on how strong the solution is Cheech, also keep in mind that CS affects plastics too so avoid Q-tips with plastic "sticks" if possible.(it tends to destroy the joint between the tip and the stick) I'd say give it a go with a test piece before trying it out on your Laser to be honest...

    Homemade CO2 laser

I've been away due to work but I gotta say that is IMPRESSIVE Henry!! Brilliant piece of work and I can think of a few people who will be watching with interest ;) If you need tougher electrodes the ones in the standard tubes can be smashed out and are tungsten :) great stuff all round...

    Medical Flight Hit by Laser!

I'm stuck without any diodes :( But I do have 7.5Kw of IR running happily in front of me :)

    Medical Flight Hit by Laser!

The only danger from IR is the lack of a blink reflex when compared to visible beams. For the Nuclear guys reading maybe there should be an auto SCRAM (Safety Control Rod Axe Man) system fitted to $5 Ebay pens that electrocutes the operator if they point it at an aircraft :) cheers Dave

    Homemade CO2 laser

Good news and a great choice of Uni, it's been some years since I attended there but I doubt it has changed much :) cheers Dave

New Zealand Laser Law Change - DUE March 1st 2014

Hiya J, It's never about what is right or stopping dangerous behaviour, it's about appearing to do something to make the underinformed public feel safer in their daily lives (note: member of public = registered voter) The only way to win this kind of situation is to appeal to the public and not...

New Zealand Laser Law Change - DUE March 1st 2014

In answer to the "how will they prove" questions... They won't...it's called probable cause...they will simply seize the item and ship it off to some lab somewhere who will write up a nice big report on how your death ray is illegal. Much the same way they do here in the UK, The "reasonable...

    Laser-Aircraft events

Likely why your not a pilot :) Your miles up in the air inside a pressured thin skinned tube with 300+ lives that are your responsibility, passing through an atmosphere that would kill you in seconds with your arse strapped in a cigar tube that weighs 200+ tonnes with 2,000,000+ parts built by...

    Laser-Aircraft events

That's no cheap kiddy laser my friend. At 1/2 mile the human face is a VERY small target and if moving even smaller. It's unlikely even a simple mount would be able to follow a human sized target at 1/2 mile. A laser fired at the general direction of an aircraft is a "criminal offence"...sad to...

class V (5) laser build specifications

Nothing in Physics limits the amount of energy that can be bound into a laser beam. Funnily enough a death star type laser is actually possible :) cheers Dave

Protective viewing window, film, or enclosure

Therein lays half the problem, I treat my 7.5kW CO2 with less respect than I do a 50 watt RF Galvo. The physical presence of a machine near the size of a small house tends to demand respect just because *it exists*, tiny little Galvo's that look like toys in comparison don't have the same kind...

    Laser Sintering Patents?

Patents and China are comical :) LB says the same as I said 4 years ago when 3d printers were first proposed (outside of labs), game changer will end up being an understatement. On a similar note, a lot of years ago there was a Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor built in the US, it ran for just...

    Post Your GUN (PICS)

Blow form a 50BMG out and use that :) The picture is a 700 nitro, the Trex is a shouldered case. Still quite a lot less power than the 20mm Serbu :) cheers dave

Head arrived - now up and lasing!

Re: Head arrived - new question (problem?) Tube as in output diameter of the fan UK :) a 195cfm fan that is 4" in diameter flow characteristics change when it's necked down to / run through a 3 inch output. The drop is quite a bit :) cheers Dave

Probably the Most Expensive Laser on the Forum!

Have fun, be aware though on older J48's the two caps can blow. Cheers Dave ps: Drop Synrad a line and they will send you the correct manual if you give them the tube serial number.

Head arrived - now up and lasing!

Re: Head arrived - new question (problem?) Remember LT flow characteristics change by quite a bit when you reduce tube sizes. cheers Dave
