I broke my damn Flexdrive. Can someone ID a component for me?

I was working on a build, and I managed to bollocks up my FlexDrive. I hooked it up to the test load one last time, and I got nothing from it. Upon inspection, I noticed one of the components (as well as part of the trace for it :yabbmad:) was missing. I've exposed the rest of the trace and I'm...

Copper driver heatsink option. . .

I came up with a DIY idea for a driver heatsink. I started out with this - It's a copper reduction bushing for plumbing. I picked one up at the hardware store for a buck or two. After some quality time with the hacksaw and a fracking big hammer, I got this - 33 grams of delicious copper...

    Good Ebay experience with LASER66

I bought a 405-G2 lens from LASER66 (ebay ID, lasers4u.) Pretty much a textbook transaction. I payed, and had my lens a few scant days later. Everything was packed well, and arrived in perfect condition. No friction, no hassle, no problems. Just good business :)

Is there such a thing as a "hobbiest grade" spectrometer?

Wasn't sure where to put this one. . . I've often thought it would be neat to own a spectrometer to measure laser wavelengths, fluorescence of materials, LEDs, and pretty much anything that makes light. Are there any units available that would be affordable for the average joe? A search turned...

    SF-AW210 stainless pen build

Ever since I saw some half inch stainless tubing at the hardware store, I knew I wanted to stick a laser in it. Here's what I came up with. I had to turn down the module to be able to press it in. The Micro Boost drive is soldered directly to the diode pins, and set to 210 mA. My switch is...

Are there any single mode 445s out there?

I'm just wondering. I know they'd probably be expensive as all get-out with the lack of a consumer product to harvest them from. If they exist, what sort of powers might one expect?

    Wax. . .

Here's a fun little experiment. All you need is a relatively high-powered laser (I've gotten this to work with > 100mW of well-focused green,) and some appropriately colored wax (the darker the better.) Simply focus the laser on the wax. As it melts, it will become reflective. Angle the laser so...

    Finally got my 445 going!

I'm rocking this baby at 1A in a TANK007 host. 405-G-1 lens. Micro Boost drive. 1132mW peak, 1088 average. So, so awesome! Pic is in a fully lit room, no smoke, dust, nothing!

Difference in transmission rates between two 405-G-1 lenses. Normal?

I took the lens off my Pocket Mini for my 445 build, and I just now replaced it with one I bought from Flaminpyro. Out of curiosity, I put it on the meter. I'm now getting 25mW more than with the previous lens (275mW.) I'd expect some amount of variation, but 25mW seems like a lot. How much can...

Has anyone done anything with FAC, yet?

The title pretty much say it all. Also, a source for suitable lenses would be nice. I did the google thing, and every website I found was a "contact for pricing" sort of deal, which leads me to believe that they'll expect mass orders.

Driver problem - Micro Boost getting really hot. . .

So I'm trying to set the current on my new Micro Boost. I've got it on a test load, and when I first switch it on, it meters around 450 mA. It also gets really frigging hot. As it heats up, the current it puts out starts to drop. I (think) I have it configured for 540 - 1000 mA. Also, turning...

    SF-AW210 up and running. . .

I got my diode from the first round of AMK's group buy. I'll say this for it; it's a tough little bugger. This is the first diode I managed to break the window on. Fortunately, I broke it well enough that I could shake out the glass. I did a test run. Still lases. Cool. So I proceed to replace...

    The thread about "real" goggles/glasses. . .

All right, I've read through the threads we have going regarding protective eyewear for 445nM, and found myself less than satisfied. I just want to know where I can get some good, trustworthy protection, preferably shipped from inside the USA. It doesn't need to be cheap; I've already dropped...

The little diode that could. . .

So, after my 6x died, I dropped a PHR in the host (Jayrob pocket mini + copper heatsink,) and decided to abuse it a little. I set the current to 140mA. I now know that it's currently putting out 135mW after a 405-G-1 lens. I've been running it hard, pretty much ignoring duty cycles (it has been...

Review - Kenometer USB (56k warning, Pics ahead.)

Woohoo! I am now the proud owner of a Kenometer USB. Here's a quick little write-up on it. I ordered and payed on April 18th, and my LPM was delivered May 21st, about a month later. I don't find this unacceptable, given the semi-custom, non-mass produced nature of the product, and the need to...

    A fun little laser-related experiment.

Here's a fun little experiment you can try. You'll need; A laser powerful enough to burn, preferably focusable, with a decent duty cycle. A small clear plastic or glass box or other enclosure (Must be relatively air-tight. A pop bottle or over-turned glass ware on a table might work.) A...

Pics Added 05/27, 100mw Rayfoss focusable greenie; RF532-100mW-B03

First, a link to the product in question - www.rayfoss.com I paid for the laser on 04/28, and received it yesterday. Not bad considering it shipped from the other side of the world. On the customs label, it was declared as a "flashlight sample". The box the laser came in is, admittedly, a bit...

Are there any greens with glass optics?

I love green lasers, but the cheaper ones usually come with acrylic lenses. This is sort of okay, until you try to clean them and scratch the crap out of them. Aixiz glass and Jayrob lenses have spoiled me on acrylic. Are there any greens out there that use glass? Preferably AR coated, of...

You might be a laser nut if. . .

You might be a laser nut if. . . You have an "Ask me about my lasers" sticker on your car. You have more money in lasers than you do in your car. You have ever been pleasantly surprised to hear your own flesh sizzle. You own 25 DVD drives and 2 DVDs. You have ever held a memorial service...

Got my laser built (Jayrob Pocket Mini + 6x)

So, my GGW diode came in yesterday (thanks, Hightechdealz!) and I was thusly able to put together my pocket mini kit that's been sitting around. The kit went together smoothly, taking just under two hours to put together (actually, a lot of that time went towards trying to bridge the resistors...
