I used a blu ray reader diode and it does burn! It's about 50ma at 7v and barely burns black tape.

I think you're both right. Ya gotta be careful and use safety precautions, but also, lasers ARE inherently dangerous anyways, and YOU SHOULDNT EVEN BE PLAYING WITH THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE! That being said, use common sense and everything should be all right. Life is all about taking risks to...
