I've built a laser with an M140 diode, and want to install a star cap in place of the G2 lens.
Is there any set of star caps available that can screw into the housing?
Am keen to experiment with making a bat signal type arrangement too. Anyone done this?
How easy is it to make a star cap with...
This is the only G2 lens I can see on ebay and it says its for laser engraving, so im assume it would have a very fine focus to a point and give a very narrow beam? Im not sure if its a G2 going by this or not.
Doesnt come in a brass lens holder by the looks either...
I tried my cheap glass lens that i got from china and i think it does have a tighter beam, but still did not feel like it could quite focus as good as it should.
I will definitely try a g2 lens and see how that goes, I have absolutley no idea what kind of lens it is.
Thats great to know, will...
Yeah I didnt think much about doing that, but remember i just bought a lathe, so I could try cutting it down a MM or two I guess?
No, its not a DTR module, its just a cheap one I bought off ebay that came with a lens but swapped out with a better G8 lens.
The part that the diode is pressed into...
Thanks lifetime17 for the host!
This is my first laser build ever.
I grabbed an astral drive V off ebay and an M140 diode.
Its using a g8 lens, and as others have said, you don't get an overly tight beam and its slightly parabolic in shape I'm pretty sure.
The beam is bright as hell and leaves a...
Ok, thats helpful, I did wonder if 638nm would be more visible, so thats good to know.
What diodes are easier to find? I see there are 632.8nm available also, im assuming they would be even more visible?
For my next build, I would like to do a red laser, what wavelength is most popular?
Is there any thats more visible?
This seems to be the brightest 638nm diode I can find, its a Oclaro HL63193MG
Im assuming most of the generic red lasers are...
I don't know much about laser diode science/physics but the chemistry looks very Similar to leds. I'm assuming they cost millions of dollars to develop compared to LED's?
Or else we would see them I'm many many colors I'm assuming?
For party/disco lasers you can use RGB to get any color anyway...
I have not bought a laser in a few years. My green laser cost me $50nzd and is 50mw.
It runs on 2 AAA batteries. I need to get a photo but its basically a whole chrome body.
I've bought some of those cheap $20 ones on ebay for mates that run on a single 18650 and they never had a focus.
