Update: I got a G-2 lens from forum member r4mn33k. It doesn't exactly work miracles in terms of divergence or making my focusing life easier, but its definitely brighter now.
Only drawback is that, since the lens sits soo close to the diode, I can see a back reflection of the...
Keep in mind that the laser beam itself is barely visible unless the person is standing like 15-30 degrees from the point of origin (experimentally tested this in the city). That probably helps with people not getting pissed
It's amazing, but unlike with Styro's videos it's something that I would never be able to afford XD
Most of the magic comes from that laser box, which I'd estimate is >$2K. The Nichia arrays for comparison are only like $330 for 100W
Glad to hear its possible to dismantle/clean the lenses, will definitely give it a shot (I have 99% isopropanol) (y)
I assume you'd get the G7/8 lenses from eBay? Or is there some cheaper and/or faster shipping place to get them from?
Lol I was just cleaning my lens again and I noticed that a small speck got in between my lenses somehow (I'm using an all-glass 3 element lens)... Any idea how to dismantle/clean it (without a cleanroom) without making it dirtier than when I started?
Or if not could any of you guys hit me up...
True, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that at some point you'd get better form factor from a radiator system than from a large block of metal. Obviously that isn't possible within a handheld laser, but yeah
If they were confiscated 8 times, I'd suggest maybe buying just the laser diode and seeing if it makes it past customs. If it does (just the diode by itself), you can buy the other components to complete your laser with no problems
