    IR filter????

Lol. No, I've been playing with an arduino micro lately and just happened to have a pic of the IR emitter led I saved on my phone. Been playing with driving a cheap walmart lasers with it and experimenting and learning with transistors and IR emitter/detector led's and various sensors and relays...

    405nm 532nm 650nm DIY Altoids laser build!

    looks like the latter imho

    IR filter????

Iphone 4s and I can assure you it does not have one on the front facing VGA camera. regular main high res camera, notice the blue colored LED doesn't appear to be emitting any light. vga camera without IR filter reveals the light that is invisible to the naked eye.

    IR filter????

On the main camera on the back panel yes. but not the "forward facing" camera on the front screen.

    IR filter????

Could this be why it died? did your laser say anything about recommended duty cycles?? and IR light shows up blue on my iphone fyi... not sure about your pic though...

    Hello from Wisconsin

Welcome! I am also from Western Wisconsin! at 26 yo the most interesting job I've had was as a tech with a manufacturing company that uses many lasers in the plant so the witnessing incredible technology is what sparked my interest in lasers again. and yes laser safety glasses usually cover a...

    I Apologize :(

oOo looks like I have some reading to do... This^^... all the time... At my job too. I'm relatively new to lasers but have been on car forums and on FB helping people with their tech problems with other Nissan 300zx's, and I always try to say "I think" or "according to such and such"... I will...

I thought lasers only were ONE wavelength? why is IR emitted?

I see, finally found it at the VERY end of the hazards section, looks like only DPSS lasers contain IR emissions, and simple diode only based lasers do not contain IR. My mistake, thanks!!

I thought lasers only were ONE wavelength? why is IR emitted?

I'm aware 532nm DPSS lasers are actually frequency doubled 1064nm IR so it makes sense if some leaks through... But what about red 632 and blue 405/445 lasers? I thought the emitted some IR too for some reason... Or am I mistaken?

I thought lasers only were ONE wavelength? why is IR emitted?

Excuse the dumb question.... but I thought lasers only emitted light in their ONE particular wavelength.... so WHY do I hear about various red/green/blue lasers containing INFRARED light as well??? Someone shine a beam on this please!!

    Super cheap beam expander!

not an expert but i think that is what is being done.... not sure why they call it expander though...

Excimer KrF krypton fluoride 248nm laser color?

ah I see, and yes that sounds a little more my language. Fascinating machines.

Insignia blu ray player just died.....

Player - Sled - Sled Removed - Backing plate plate removed exposing inner cavities here's the ribbon cable on the back of the diode

Insignia blu ray player just died.....

A 5v output with a 150 ohm resistor, the setup I used to push about 30ma through a cheap 632nm diode. It lit up when in the sled (barely) but I think the mechanical force of popping the diode out messed it up. :-/ bunch of cool pics. I'll have to find some time to upload.

Toshiba visible laser diode product guide .pdf

Haha I know right! I for some reason felt urged to be like, "ssshhhh!!! Your giving away company secrets!!" It's so in depth... Yet also covers the basics very well too.

Insignia blu ray player just died.....

Well that's good cause I already destroyed this diode somehow... Extracted the sled and tested it while in the sled, but after popping it out it didn't seem to work anymore :-/

Insignia blu ray player just died.....

So I've been wanted to order a 405nm diode for a while now... But too impatient with shipping to pull the trigger.... Well.. My blu ray player just died... So I think I solved that problem... Anyone know what might be in it as far as diode specs? I'm guessing 10-20mw but what are average...

Toshiba visible laser diode product guide .pdf

Came across this very in depth PDF from toshiba about laser diodes, a LOT of technical info about diodes and testing... Just figured I'd share it in case some of you haven't seen it before... http://www.ele.uva.es/~pedro/optoele/lasers/VLDs_Toshiba.pdf
