Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please There's an Aussie seller only about 3 hours away with a working SSY-1 head thats sitting on $107 - no Q-Switch. Dam I'm tempted, Meredith has them cheaper but won't export. There have been some M60 (RUBY) laser...

    Cutting Laser Via Fiber

I could be wrong, but I think you will probably find there is a lot of attenuation in optic fibre, plus is can screw up the beam shape. Commercial CO2 laser engravers usually have a fixed CO2 tube and use two mirrors. There was some discussion about that here. I know I didn't get much out of...

    LPC-826 not working right?

It looks a lot better in your last pics than in the first one. I doubt there is anything wrong with the diode, looks like just crap on the lens to me. The one in the pics is set to ~100mW (my "MacGyver" laser - here)

    PHR805T Power Comparison

My el-cheapo LPC build is 90mA and can still light matches, smoke black plastic etc within seconds. My other LPC build here puts out 288mW and burns things in a fraction of a second. This PHR build here will still burn almost anything black even when set for 95mW

    LPC-826 not working right?

Yep, diode looks to be lined up OK and yep there is definately crap on the lens!! BTW, try and keep your pic's to about 800x600 if you can, otherwise you have to scroll half way to Bourke to see the end of the photo...

Ensuring My Safety Selling Portable Lasers in Australia

You won't get asked if its inside the country. Some pre-paid packages you have to mark what they are and I just put "electronic components" and it should be fine. I think they give it a quick X-Ray and drug sniff and that's about it. Your biggest threat BY FAR will be an undercover cop buying...

    LPC-826 not working right?

I just took some shots of my LPC that has an acrylic lens and I'll post them in a sec. They look a lot better than that Edit: These are all in a brightly lit room right under two flouro battens: OK first take a pic without the lens in. Here is mine from about 2 metres away: This is with the...

    LPC-826 not working right?

Air duster? It could just be a nasty lens, or the diode may be pressed in crooked or not all the way in. Does it focus to a proper spot (even with the halo's and other artifacts around it)?

Well we did have a PM who gave everyone money to spend on Chinese TV's. I think it helped china's economic growth but not sure about ours :(

How to tell if a ps3 blu-ray laser is working?

You can see the violet glow coming out of it. Just to clarify, is the diode inside a PS3 or outside of it?

    LPC-826 not working right?

What sort of lens is it? I have seen that sort of affect with cheap plastic lenses and lenses in backwards. Also you may have a hair or dust or heat sink compound on the front of the diode. Close ups of the lens and front of the diode may help if you can.

    laser propulsion

I read about the star wars lasers not long ago - I thought most were CW chemical lasers in the tens of KW like chemical oxygen iodine lasers at (COIL) at 1315nm IR and hydrogen fluoride lasers at 2700 - 2900nm.

    PHR805T Power Comparison

At the end of the day its a personal choice. I've blown up a few violet diodes, they seem to be more prone to switch on spikes and inrush currents and the like. The LPC's are far more forgiving if you drive them too hard. You probably won't see the beam from a PHR in the daylight as well as a...

Ensuring My Safety Selling Portable Lasers in Australia

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer. ie you are building something from scratch. I kind of disagree. It's not illegal to sell parts in NSW or most states as far as I remember. You can buy a 1 Watt diode and legally put it into a non-portable laser, or into a laser projector for example. So if...

Ensuring My Safety Selling Portable Lasers in Australia

What bobhaha said.... If someone joins the forums and inboxes every aussie within the first week then the answer is no. If they seem to have a genuine interest and ask the right questions on the forums then I'd consider it. I get asked a fair bit too...
