What are the usual specs on the lasers in these? Couple of others on ebay that I may try for.

Looks very similar to the tube that was originally in this module. It's spec'd at .95 mW I've since replaced the dead tube with a similar Melles Griot tube at 1.5 mW.

IIRC those were High power Argons. I would guess they were at least 20W.

The DAC will handle analog and TTL just fine.

The blue is just a filtered glow from the HR mirror, the pink is just the unfiltered output from the brewster window. There is no actual beam in those pictures since you would need an output mirror to complete the resonator. HeNe tubes will glow at different colors depending upon the actual gas...

In the 80's I used to make the HeNe's that Symbol used to put in their scanners, I don't imagine the diode is more than 2-5 mW.

I actually got burned(felt like a bee sting) by a phr at 90ma with aixiz glass lense, when my hand was at the focal point(about 6" from lense) while adjusting lense. The beam should be visible from behind the laser in a dark room. Even a ~200 mW GGW is barely visible in a room with lights on. I...
