Need more info on this Hellium Cadmium laser

Thanks Gooey Gus. I'll try your suggestions. The laser head only has 110 hours, so it shouldn't be depleted of Cd (Don't they last ~1000hrs?). I have checked the HV from the power supply and it looks fine, too. Since this is the power supply that it was working with before, I don't think that...

Need more info on this Hellium Cadmium laser

Dave, The laser belonged to someone else, a professor that retired. Otherwise we would have been using it :). Why not, right? Dry ice trick? What about a liquid nitrogen trick? That should work the same way, right? Just lower the pressure enough to get it lasing. K

Need more info on this Hellium Cadmium laser

How funny. I just recently tried to get the HeCd in our lab (same model, Liconix working.  It was working, then wasn't used for ~yr, now it is dead.  The He pressure slowly builds up and if it is too high, it will not lase.  These lasers are very finicky.  We found that they are really difficult...

Wow. That is a good deal.

    Selecting the proper diode..

I agree with Dave, they should run a long time.  Make sure you have adequate heat sinking. As for your second question, I found several schematics over at Sam's FAQ (here http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/laserdps.htm#dpssg1 ). Some have an external photodiode for feedback. Was that your question?

**F/S**BR/RED with driver in Aixiz Module $40

The ones I got from Tommy heat up really quickly. I turn mine off when they start to feel hotish (certainly less than a minute). The modules start lasing around 5 V, so I tend to run them there with less total power but a more stable configuration. I haven't cracked any of mine open, either...

Liconix CdHe laser - help wanted

Anybody have any experience with these lasers?  If you go to here: http://stores.ebay.com/computerjunker21 and search for liconix it will come up with a head and power supply.  I have one in the lab I am working with but it hasn't been used in 3 years.  So, it tries to start by arcing a plasma...

Welcome! You'll enjoy playing with the lasers - just be careful! K

    Hello Hello

I agree. Surface mount components are tough to solder even with a small tip.

    Leadlight blu-ray

Basically. He charges extra for the flexdrive. Here are the details: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1224680882/0 I don't think he connects his case to either pin, so you'd have to do that yourself. There are quite a few different "405nm" diodes.  There is the ps3 diode...

**F/S**BR/RED with driver in Aixiz Module $40

There is a polarity, the black is ground, the white(red) is positive. I am not sure what the case is (positive or negative). I could check, though. The BR module with the rckstr driver is completely hidden. Check out the photos on page one.

    Leadlight blu-ray

You can also just buy the modules, like Ryan mentioned. Then all you have to do is buy the batteries and the host and put it together. Blueray is selling 405s for $40 and reds for $50 or so, several places sell green modules as well. Just another option if you don't want to build your own the...

    Multimeter Selection

I just recently was looking for a good, cheap multimeter.  Flukes are grand, but they are way overpriced.  I needed to measure dc microamps and have a rs232 output.   This is what I found: http://www.emovendo.net/magnet/multimeter-digital-with-rs232-computer-interface.html $33+ shipping.  I...
