That should be okay for short runs but only around a minute. As helios said adding thermal compoud in the gaps would help. Also you could try one of these , I have one lasing away at about 1.2 W with no problems using a duty cycle of around 3-4 minutes on and about 1 off.

Wow, that is an expensive first laser. Dragon lasers is top quality and their safety glasses will be fine. If you have glasses on then it is fine to look at the dot, even when burning. When pointing at night you do not need safety glasses as with even the most powerful lasers you will never see...
