    High voltage poll

You're likely to get > 0.5A out of the secondaries. MOT's are not current limited like a Neon Sign Transformer (NST) or Oil Burner Ignition Transformer (OBIT). The secondaries will likely get very hot very quickly and the initial surge might trip the mains circuit breaker. These things produce...

Did I screw up bidding on these goggles?

I think you might want to talk to pseudonomen137. He might have a pair for a very reasonable price.

    Trans-Siberian Orchestra...LASERS!!!!!!

They have a US East Coast and a West Coast troupe that play each year starting late Nov or early Dec and playing through New Year.  The show is a mix of modern Broadway-Metal, classical music done with electric guitar in a rock style held together by a story narrated about a holiday theme.  Al...

    Raffles

LPF should have a way of evaluating lasers and companies independent of the fear the company sent a "well above spec" sample for review. If that means a LPF Review Fund some of us donate to or a Raffle Fund, I'd be happy either way. I think there are members here who would love a chance to bid...

    pocket laser?

Reminds me of a furniture outlet store where I used to live. They always seemed to have a going out of business sale... this week only.

    pocket laser?

I think that deal ends tomorrow, so if you want one for $15 shipped, I wouldn't delay too long.

    Raffles

Other part of the thread before the suggestion morphed into a raffle: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1192204888/20#20 The raffle idea is interesting...

    Yagoo Industrial Co. Ltd

Very well said. In order to truly review a company and their products, you absolutely need to review them while being treated like one of their many customers. Then you get a representative sample, and if there are issues, representative customer service. I wonder how many members are...

    Funny firework story

I had a professor in college who used to present a chemistry lecture (once per semester) dedicated to exothermic reactions - violent ones. He's begin by showing up from the back of the lecture hall, running down the steps shooting blanks out of a pair of colt revolvers. Now that he had our...

Ultimate geek question... Who plays DND???

I played in college. Back in those days I doubt you'd find many engineering students who weren't playing. Yes, I had skull dice, lead figurine avatars (painted adventurers). I guess that makes me an old geek.

    Nova Lasers Forum Discount !

Without having owned them myself, my feeling is the x65 would be fine for star pointing. The problem comes in the second half of your statement... "... I just need one for stargazing for now." It's the for now that eventually gets all of us. If you can manage the cost of a x105 now, you know...

    IR Goggles SCAM!

Thanks for the input, FrothyChimp. I think pseudonomen137 has a much better idea.. PM sent.

    IR Goggles SCAM!

With shipping (US), they're about $15 less expensive than the WL LaserShades, at least at minimum bid price. While price alone isn't a good incentive to buy goggles, if they would protect against reflected light from <250mw and still allow the spot to be seen, they might be a decent alternative...

NES-SHADES! 3-5 OD! $29 shipped to the US!

Thanks. Sounds no more than OD4 then. Good for my needs, thanks. I'm not planning to own anything >350mw anyway, unless I first trade in my wife. Oh wait... already did that ::).

    IR Goggles SCAM!

I was going to ask if anyone had bought and tested their red goggles... hXXp://cgi.ebay.com/New-620nm-632nm-650nm-760nm-Red-Laser-Protection-Goggle_W0QQitemZ150169641573QQihZ005QQcategoryZ48742QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem They're claiming OD4 for wavelengths between 635 and 650 or so.. from their...

NES-SHADES! 3-5 OD! $29 shipped to the US!

What's the OD comparison between NESHADES and the WL 532's in both elite and lasershade version? I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find a direct comparison. I take it from this thread they're closer to somewhere between OD 3 and 4 at 532nm rather than the first stated...

    Sky Lanterns $4 each

What about rolling a paper tube, filling it with sterno and fixing it to the top of the fuel patch that's built into the balloon? The theory being that the tube would heat the balloon enough to launch, though it would not be as bright... but that eventually the tube burns down to ignite the patch.
