    Modifying my green laser

No, nothing else bad can happen if you don't stare at it (or shine it at a police officer or a vehicle.) High power lasers in the green, UV and NIR band are used for laser surgery. They can do things like cauterize, break up skin pigments from age spots so your body absorbs them, reshape your...

    Laser pointing in Iraq

Today they use a lot of NIR designators. The beam is pulsed at a very short, recognizeable PW that the missile, rocket or bomb is coded to guide to. This one uses ND:Yag at 1064nm: http://www.dsd.es.northropgrumman.com/DSD-Brochures/laser/LLDR.pdf

    Modifying my green laser

That laser can definitely go through two very important organs... your eyes. Even though it's rated (in China) as <5mW, as an inexpensive low power pointer it may be lacking an IR filter. It's possible there's 5mW of green light and another 15mW of IR coming out the end in a flashlight-like...

    Laser Power Meter question

How in your opinion does it stack up against the LPM-1?

    Laser Power Meter question

Has anyone played with a meter like this one? http://www.intl-lighttech.com/products/detectors/1400systems/spl024f http://www.intl-lighttech.com/products/meters/doc/IL1400manual.pdf Just curious. They're showing up on ebay.

    20x DVD @ Frys (N.Cal)  $30

Has anyone opened up a Phillips 20x internal DVD +-RW drive? Frys (Sacramento area anyway) has them for $49.99 and a $20 mail-in rebate. How easy to extract the diode? Open or closed can type? Worth it over the GB Sendiode? Bobdiode? Just asking questions no one probably yet has answers to.

    3W rgb

My walmart was sold out of SHG's. Must be too close to Halloween.

Just bought an Aixiz 635nm 10mW Module

Those AixiZ 10mW modules were designed for CW operation at 5.5mW - 8mW. That's why they're labeled 6mW. It is sort of false advertising since their design spec doesn't go beyond 8, but you can push them to 10mW just fine under normal pointing duty cycles.

Concerns about 532nm Wicked lasershades + reviews

Re: Concerns about 532nm Wicked lasershades + revi I thought the nes_shades were red enhancement goggles, designed to make red beams contrast better against backgrounds, and that their OD at 532nm was high enough to use them as green laser goggles (though they're not CE rated.) Forgive my...

17 watt 9xx nm diode from ebay

The bar arrays do have some rudimentary collimation inside the works. Apparently they use at least enough lens to coax the power into a single beam that is near circular. That's the only way it would be useful coming out of the fiber. I have one of the 3 Watt fiber coupled diodes I have not yet...

    100mW Red laser module+circuit  at KD! $42.53

Re: 100mW Red laser module + circuit  at KD!! Price shows $42.53 when I look it up. It also says output power 100mW MAX. That probably means power peaks briefly at 100mW, dropping down after 3 or 4 seconds to (who knows) <60mW.

    cheapest blue?

I would buy a ViRay. Are you selling? ::)
  13. S

    cheapest blue?

Yea. NASA defines Violet as 400nm, Indigo as 445nm and Blue as 475nm. I guess VioRay didn't excite the marketing folks as much as Blu.

    Modified dx200

I think the consensus was all the NewWish lasers have IR filtering. That doesn't mean the filter is dense enough for lasers >50mW however. Best to assume they're leaking enough to be dangerous, which is only really a problem when burning something (intentionally causing specular reflections...

    LM 317 question

So Mike... what's the prognosis? How did the LM200's work? I still think 2xRCR123's should work for the BluRay GB diode even using the LM317T. Can anyone confirm this through observation? Thanks

    California Fires from space

Ahh... but in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the Terminator is destroyed by heat (molten metal.)

Where can I get green laser pointers

If you mean this video: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/497525/how_to_make_a_burning_laser_save_100s_of/ I believe many of us decided it was either a farce (he switched diodes), or that he disabled the current limit chip, meaning the laser would indeed light matches for a few minutes, then burn...

FS: Various Goggles  -- All SOLD.

I know someone who needs some spending money right now. He has these goggles (1 pair each) available at $40 shipped (US) per pair. (He may need more for the UVEX goggles, I'd have to ask him.) If anyone is interested, PM me please. NoIR Laser Co. Laser Shield safety glasses model AL2#36 with...
