    520nm Diode laser... Info?

The green is for display purposes. With a green diode, RGB full-color displays can be made with all-laser light sources. I've read the stuff they're sampling now is maybe like 50mW of green? And it might've actually been 510nm that they're sampling now, which is still green as well. But with...

How come we can't get 1w green diodes like we can blue?

With many other effects to take into consideration, semiconductor bandgap roughly gives you emission wavelength of a laser diode (that's the 1st-order approximation). Making semiconductor structures is difficult. Making semiconductor materials with the right combination of properties to get...

    520nm Diode laser... Info?

It's green. It's not the same green as 532nm, but it's green. And getting samples isn't impossible at all. They're like Doritos, they make more every day, it just takes money.

    520nm Diode laser... Info?

There are several groups/companies out there. Sumitomo, Kaai/Soraa, Osram, Nichia are all companies that have published laser diodes in that wavelength regime. Also, a university, UCSB, has published up to 513nm I think? Nichia has samples available of 515nm diodes, Sumitomo has published...

    Lense/Optics Simulator

Nice looking program and all, but you're missing out on some physics if you think you can use a lens to decrease both beam diameter and divergence simultaneously.

Does a cooled laser run longer?

If the laser diodes is running in an APC configuration with a photodiode, then it will likely draw less current at the same power, since higher temperature increases the current necessary to achieve a given power. But there are a lot of variables built into a system such as that.

    Ebay $9 blu-ray pens: GREAT!

I wish the violet wasn't quite so bright, it's really a bit too bright to use in a dark room. But I seriously doubt they can do anything as far as getting ones slightly less powerful. I REALLY don't want 70mW, ideally I would get like 20mW, but the one I have seems to be around 50 or so.

    Dead? - 5v 800mA

Don't get me wrong, a voltage supply will work for laser diodes, but not when it's set to 5V. It's safer from a hobbyist/user point of view to go with current-source, but voltage can still work if you set it to an appropriate voltage.

    Dead? - 5v 800mA

Yeah, that's your problem. Look at the I-V curve of these things. 5V will give you WAY more than 1A of current. I haven't even seen a plot up to 5V. You'd be much better off with a current-source driver set to your desired current (800mA) than a voltage-source driver.

    Dead? - 5v 800mA

Which was it, 5V or 800mA? Because it couldn't have been both. Was it a voltage source set to 5V, or a current source set to 800mA? Please describe your set-up.

    climbing 1,768 foot Transmission Tower

Parachuting is basically out of the question on these things. First, BASE jumping is extremely dangerous when you jump and control yourself the whole way. If you fall, you're out of control and you're not going to successfully open your parachute. Second is even worse: This is a tower that...

Nichia to Ship Green Diode Laser

Narrow ridge lasers and wide ridge lasers have the same marginal costs, assuming yields are the same (which is a pretty good assumption here, I believe). They went to a wider ridge for the power, and I believe they want the narrowest ridge that they can use and still get the minimum power...

Nichia to Ship Green Diode Laser

There's a BIG difference between those red diodes and the blue/green diodes though: the materials involved. The 445nm diodes we see here have a 15um-wide ridge and can put out 1 watt of power. As you say, the red diode needs a 50um ridge to get half a watt of power. Clearly, violet and blue...

    Post Your GUN (PICS)

Cleaning guns? Bahh. I fully clean my guns on exactly one occasion: when they get wet. Any other time, it's just not worth it. I've fired my shotguns over 10,000 times without cleaning, and never had a problem. A drop or 2 of oil on the trouble spots, a good wipe-down to get skin oils off...

what fourmula do i use to find output wavelength of 3 random wavelangth when combined

Chroma is a program that does color mixing for you for monochromatic light sources. It was made by a guy named tocket, and works quite well. The downfall for visualization of the resulting color though, is the fact that your computer monitor can display nowhere near all the colors that can...

Are there any single mode 445s out there?

There's a guy named kingston meo selling some diodes that are probably single-mode on here. He had a listing for them on ebay as well. Lower power of course, but they were something like <$100 maybe?

A CR2 battery doesn't provide enough voltage to run a 445nm diode with a rkcstr driver.

Death by laser radar on A28 NL

Barring extenuating circumstances (like no brake lights), the rear car is almost always at fault. The offense that often goes onto the ticket is "failure to reduce speed in order to avoid an accident". The front car always has the right to slow down without being rear-ended, it is the...

    vacuum and high voltage

A valve won't prevent backstreaming during operation if the pump backstreams while the system is in molecular flow instead of laminar flow. The line between laminar and molecular flows, below which oil can backstream if steps aren't taken to prevent it, is usually quoted as between 100 and 150...

Dr's use laser to kill eye worm.

It was probably a YAG laser like is already used for several different types of eye-related medical procedures. They can carefully aim and focus those things quite well inside the eye without causing damage.
