which laser is best to buy??

I can tell you that 1w of 445nm has a much more visible beam than 100mW of green. Quality is hard to categorize. Quality/price is easier to judge. If I were to buy another green laser I'd try getting one of these; Green laser module 200mW For custom build or lab [OLGLM200] - $115.99 : Welcome...

which laser is best to buy??

Well if the beam diameter is small (<2mm) then 120mW will cut electrical tape, pop balloons, and "smoke" black paper, at close range. The bigger the beam is the less it will "burn" unless its focused. It's just that, in my experience, no matter which one you buy or who makes it, pen lasers...

Physicist create new type of light! (potential for x-ray spectrum lasers!)

Bose-Einstein condensates have the potential to revolutionize electronics. The exponential increase of computing power cannot continue. As it stands microprocessors have layers of silicon 20 atoms thin. Any thinner than 5 atoms thin and electrons no longer behave as expected. So computing power...

which laser is best to buy??

"Seeing the beam" is a matter of perspective, and it depends on sooo many things. A common misconception is that a laser's beam is twice as visible if the laser is twice as powerful. That's not necessarily ture in my opinion. If I were you, for the amount of money you're willing to spend, I'd...

    UFO or 445 laser?

I don't think it was a laser. The motion was way too smooth. It's very hard to point a laser at a distant object and have it be still. So if it was a laser it would have had to been on some kind of oscillating mechanical mount. Unless it was a very clear night you'd be able to see the beam. It...

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,

Remember, remember the Fifth of November, The Gunpowder Treason and Plot, I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot. Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent To blow up the King and Parli'ment. Three-score barrels...

Necessary for a laser store to have a LPM?

Theoretically it is possible. Once I saw a 200kv mini marx generator that could make 18in arcs with a 9v! That was cool! -Tony

Necessary for a laser store to have a LPM?

LOL, What answer did you really expect? It's common sense if it's your desire to become reputable on the forums. But as to all the other wholesale Chinese distributors... It's a a marketing ploy, and 95% of their sales are to people who will never be able to check or know the difference...

    Flexdrives back in stock

So that's why they were sold out, because of jackasses like you guys who buy a bunch for the hell of it! I had to use a micro boost instead for my latest 445nm build! :gun: LOL, just kidding. :na: -Tony

    Home-Made Laser Diode

If you want a cheap orange laser you can try super cooling a high power 635nm laser diode. You can get it down to about 615nm I think. -Tony

So what will the future hold?

Light sabers are science fiction, FICTION!!! And I sure as hell hope it stays that way. Teenagers running around with >10w handheld lasers will ruin this hobby for everyone else. Now on a more realistic note. I think we may see new wavelength diodes in RGB projectors. Also holographic discs...

    16 megapixel cellphone camera

That's way over kill IMO. Most computers don't even have screen with a high enough resolution to view the entire image let alone a cell phone screen. Just a marketing ploy. I'm happy with the 5mp camera on my phone. -Tony

    Dead? - 5v 800mA

Yes you need a CURRENT regulated power supply. That diode will draw far more current than .8A at 5v. Build this: -Tony

    Problems with DIY driver?

Not if it is for a red or IR diode, which I am assuming he is going for seeing as hes only using 4 diodes to test his circuit. -Tony

    Problems with DIY driver?

What diode are you building this for? It looks like you set it up okay. That set up is a current regulated driver. So depending on the load (diode) the LM317 will adjust the output voltage such that the current is what you set it at via the resistors. So you can't measure the output voltage...

not enough POWER please help :D

RandyRox; unfortunately that little Rckstr driver it too inefficent to drive the diode at 1 amp without a heatsink. If I were you I'd save it for another laser and make a LM317 based current regulated driver. If you don't have the 1n4001 diode or capacitor you can omit them. The diode is...

    1 amp from trustfire 16340s ?

http://laserpointerforums.com/f67/aw-imr16430-cr123-limn-rechargeable-lithium-battery-review-test-results-52920.html ^My review if the IMR cells. I have a 445nm diode running off 800mA with a single IMR cells. I get about half an hour of lifetime. -Tony

What LPF members should know.. CHINESE HOLIDAYS

I figured this argument would come up. In reality it has very little to do with safety features. Accession numbers are issued so the gov't can keep track of and monitor radiation emitting devices, lab and industrial lasers, X-ray machines and such. They didn't enact the accession number system...

What LPF members should know.. CHINESE HOLIDAYS

Since when has buying things from China ever been a fast process? IMO we shouldn't be importing illegal lasers, make them instead. -Tony
