    Open Can Issues

It is sad! I believe I powered it up through the positive.. I don't know for sure, though, as I wasn't really thinking about it. Which is correct? I powered it on out the lens assembly and noticed it was red at the bottom of the emitter, and at the top, but the middle was dark. I looked...

    Open Can Issues

the 9v brought my current up to where it should be, and the voltage was about 3.2. The diode still wasn't bright, tho. when they go out, can you see the damage, or is it a change in the dope on the emitter or something? I took the diode out and looked at it under a 100x inspection scope, and...

    PHR-803T for about $20

Well, just to let you know, I ordered a few extra drives today. As long as I have better luck (or am more careful) with this batch, I'll have a couple extra. I'll definitely let you know how it turns out next week when I get them. I only need one working laser, and hopefully I can get that done...

    Open Can Issues

I'm continuing this from my "optiarc - no can" thread. I got the open can out of another drive, and am having some issues. I built the CCS w/ lm317 (3x10ohm resistors/no pot). I'm using 4-aaa batteries. When I test the circuit w/ no load, I get about 370ma and 5v. I test the circuit w/ the...

    optiarc - no can?

I got the red diode out. I made a driver w/ lm317 set to 350ma. Using 4 AAA's. It's not bright at all! Could physical damage cause it to have less output? I dropped it a few times while trying to get it out of its heatsink. It still lights w/ no issue, but looks like maybe 10mw It doesn't even...

    PHR-803T for about $20

ARG! Mine died! I'm not sure why. Using lm317. Tested the current. Still 90ma. It went very dim, then got the yellowish hue, then went out. I thought maybe the batteries died or something, but they are fine. I only used it for maybe 10 minutes total. Never more than a minute or so at a time...

    optiarc - no can?

I meant before I rip them out of the heatsinks. :) I can't tell which is which while they are in there. There's no hobby use for the IR's is there?

    PHR-803T for about $20

salvaging them isn't really that much trouble, but if you'd really rather have someone else do it, I'll give you my address.. Purchase one of the drives and have it shipped to me. I'll pull the diode and solder leads on it for you. It'll take a little trust in a stranger on your part :) Or...

    optiarc - no can?

Do you know which is the IR and which is the red? One has a relatively flat heatsink, and the other has a longer heatsink w/ a couple of small optics attached. You'll save me a little trouble if you get back to me before I get the bug to start on this project :) thanks

    PHR-803T for about $20

I'll sell you the one I fried :) It has wires soldered to the legs.

    PHR-803T for about $20

OK I ordered a couple last week. Got them today. Killed the first one because I forgot to short out the cap on my test driver circuit :( Was more careful on #2 and there is glorious violet light. I must admit I was expecting more visually from 80mw. I'm just used to my green, which is very...

Pulled leg off my diode - replacement?!?

Would photos of the driver mean anything to you more experienced people? I'm finding very little about green drivers here. I've read a lot about making my own 30-300ma driver, but if I do put a 500mw diode in this pen, I'll need a driver capable of something like 700ma (I think) Just in case...

    The 6 X Blu-Ray Club - ....Now 209mW's!

Re: The 6 X Blu-Ray Club - 130mW's... Schweet! I was just thinking the same thing. It would be nice, but then you'd have to add yet another option to your order page! I do have a tap and die set of my own, but I've never used it! Maybe I can learn how to use it and convert one of my barrels...

Pulled leg off my diode - replacement?!?

I did. Unfortunately, I poked around on it a bit too much trying to get it to light, and in the process definitely broke the little wires connecting to the emitter. So... perhaps the driver wouldn't work w/out feedback? not sure. But I definitely broke the diode now. (I was working on it by...

Pulled leg off my diode - replacement?!?

I've looked at a lot of photos of the DX lasers, and looked more closely at mine. I've got larger crystals and glass lenses in my laser. I've never had any beam artifacts or focus problems. I would like to just replace the diode. Are there an inexpensive sources for 808nm diodes? Also, I'm...

Pulled leg off my diode - replacement?!?

I pulled the leg off of my favorite green pointer today. I bought this thing way back, about 10 years ago. (maybe 8 years) and it was not cheap at the time. It was sold to me as being 40mw. It was definitely stronger than the other green pointer I had at the time which was sold to me as 10mw...

    optiarc - no can?

So, what about getting these strange lasers in the sony NEC optiarc 20x burners? Is it just luck if you get the good ones? Have they changed the design? Basically, I want to get an open can diode. I dont know if I should try another sony, or something else, or if these little rectangle diodes...

    optiarc - no can?

is there any way to mount these w/ a lens? Since they are just these flat rectangles, they're pretty useless, aren't they? For a quick pointer, at least. I have the can holder w/ lens (meradith glass ) And is this just luck of the draw? do they use multiple designs? I got the exact model that...

    optiarc - no can?

That photo is w/ the plastic cover removed. Here are two more, one in its heatsink

    optiarc - no can?

I just got 3 sony optiarc 20x dvd burnerss in the mail, and I can't find the diode can's in them! there are these little plastic rectangles which appear to be the lasers! did I just waste a bunch of money?
