    My Hologram collection

Single beam approach. Very simple, most of the work is the 8-10 minutes of film development after the ~1 second exposure. Here's a picture of my hologram staging area - The laser is without a lens, as you can see. Bubblewrap helps with vibrations. Considering I'm on the 6th floor of a 16...

    My Hologram collection

Another magnificent transmission hologram. Here we have some glass and other organic forms 7JLWAc_dlhA Hologram of some blooms on my Christmas cactus! These are live blooms, still attached to the plant. I placed cactus next to the hologram staging area. A couple of blooms then drooped in front...

    Stupid burning tricks compilation

Three more videos Three bore holes through CD case, bottom to top. First only shimmering reflections are seen right the case as laser burns through.. after 5-10 seconds glowing red dot appears left side of case, followed by the laser beam as cd case is punctured. 3UaikKAUQfo Lighting safety...

    Stupid burning tricks compilation

Lowest power capable of buring? I'd say what I'm using, 1/10 watt - 100mW. If you're really interested in scorching and cauterizing stuff the more the better of course - I'd recommend 250mW (1/4 watt), minimum, if so. And safety glasses! However, if the laser is focused perfectly, all the way...

    Stupid burning tricks compilation

It's now November, and getting cold and dark.. at least for those of us in the Northern hemisphere. This time of the year the light toys become more appealing. So I decided to put this video collection together. Here's the laser, <= 100mW red pocket mini Utm-gp3ej04 (here's my review of this...

Photos of an 405nm laser diode, with photodiode, seen OFF-ON under a microscope

Excellent pictures!! The crystal substrate is translucent, and it seems there's light scattering around the incredibly thin lasing region/quantum well.

    638 Mits 110 Singlemode ML520G54

Excellent! Conservatively powered coherent diode very pleasing @ < 640nm.

Microscope photos of an IR and RED laser diode, from multiple angles.

Excellent pictures, thanks for posting! The red laser diode in action is amazing -- you can see how the lasing region is only a few nanometers thick as well as individual crystals within the sapphire substrate.

    635 vs 650?

There is a difference between the two, though it's not dramatic. No digital camera is going to be capable of discerning and displaying much difference between these two colors. If you were to look at these two colors side-by-side, 650nm is a saturated cherry red while 635nm is a pink color, with...

New - looking for a decent red laser to burn and pop balloons

A good burning laser - you want a single mode (DVD) diode, and optics you can focus. The optics are very important. For example, with a Meredith acrylic ($$$) lens I've popped balloons from ~50 feet away with < 200mW output. No way an AixiZ lens would have worked at that distance. The lens...

There HERE. Eat your heart out 500mW Mitsubishi's ML501P73

It's good to see there are now very powerful red laser diodes available. Unfortunately they are all multimode. If you want a pointer that's OK. However if you want to burn stuff or create holograms DVD burning diodes remain your only option.

    Instability

This is due to the complexity of a DPSS laser, compared to a laser pointer utilizing a laser diode. For a typical red laser pointer there's a small efficient laser diode. A DPSS laser has, in addition to an infrared laser diode, two crystals which the IR light passes through being converted to...
