*UPDATE* Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube

Re: Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube Glad to see it working again! Well done.

Re: Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube Any update?

    Windows 10 , Have you?

I have a suspicion that units which are experiencing problems with Win10 are lower end hardware. I'm thinking maybe MS was too forgiving with their minspec reqs.

*UPDATE* Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube

Re: Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube Good point! Do take care. Once you replace the blown resistor the resistor string will work as a bleeder if you short the mains input terminals - good for future maintenance checks.

*UPDATE* Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube

Re: Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube Looking over the original operation photos and seeing the build/design quality more clearly now, I'm not so sure improving the output power is a good idea on second thought. I'd replace that resistor and increase the heatsink on the SCR and call...

*UPDATE* Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube

Re: Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube Ugh, man that is a disappointing driver. I thought you had a legit relay one, or at least a beefy modern silicon unit. Yeah, you're def not getting any meaningful x-ray exposure from that. IMO, try a 100k resistor (or rather, I'd place a 1/4W...

*UPDATE* Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube

Re: Ruhmkorff Coil & Crookes Railway Cathode Tube Very nice! Crookes and Geissler tubes are loads of fun! Just beware there is some soft Xray output whenever glass fluoresces green, so limit exposure times and mind the inverse square rule. Because they're soft xrays, standard...

    Windows 10 , Have you?

Yep, three machines here, zero problems with any of them.

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Going real big it seems, heh. Yeah you won't be able to use that secondary if there are kinks or shorted turns, or any carbonization at all. DR coils stress the secondary pretty heavily. If you don't want a huge secondary or fine wire you can always go the route Ward (I think it was him)...

    Windows 10 , Have you?

Several days in and still not a single bug at all. Zip, nada. Nothing wrong. This is the exact opposite experience I had with win8.1 !

    Windows 10 , Have you?

AOMEI Disk Cloner works a treat for this kind of insurance policy. Re; windows key - if you use the media-creation-tool from windows and hit "upgrade now" instead of "install" it won't ask for a key.

    Windows 10 , Have you?

Upgraded on my gaming rig, no issues what so ever. 8 and 8.1 were nothing but a never ending slew of software problems. I had to reinstall 8.1 FOUR TIMES because of recurrent registry corruptions. Way faster than 7, all the good points of 8/8.1, none of the problems.

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

EVR's coilwinder is prone to breakdowns too so availability was spotty last I looked. They'll be straight up with you about it though... no taking orders when they can't supply it quickly.

    HeNe PS woes..[solved] photo update:JDSU 1135P dissection/decanned

@UltimateKaiser HeHg can be made to lase at the 365, 405, 425, 546, and the yellow (I forget the lambda) lines, it's just a matter of the mirrors and fill pressure. AFAIK it can't do the lower lines as the Hg gas is opaque to them. It's been a long time since I read the old declassified docs on...

    HeNe PS woes..[solved] photo update:JDSU 1135P dissection/decanned

No worries. HeNe don't come in UV, sadly. Though the Ne atoms do have a UV line. HeHg, HeCd, N2, ArIon, XeIon, and Xe Eximer are your choices for direct UV. HeCd being the most affordable generally (though a UV ArIon could conceivably be similarly priced). HeHg UV is experimental only (read...

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

I've been saying it for years now, heck it's probably buried in this very thread a few times; I do NOT recommend oneTesla products. They engineer for early failure to guarantee sales of replacement parts. EasternVoltageResearch is far more reliable and robust of a company to do business with...

    HeNe PS woes..[solved] photo update:JDSU 1135P dissection/decanned

You mean a UV HeCd in working condition? Those are "glow in the dark unicorns". I've yet to see a listing for a working one with matching psu.

    Cavitation Heater - Overunity

Yeah, I purposely left that whole issue out in my previous post on purpose. I figure it must be built such that it runs for a while if the 3 yr of use cited is true, but that doesn't mean it isn't being degraded over that time, or that it would measure up to conventional tech in terms of...

    Cavitation Heater - Overunity

My gut says they were counting the carried over kinetic energy of the input water source in the output energy without adding it to the input energy. That or they were considering only the rotational energy provided by the shaft as the input energy with no concerns for the electrical energy...

    Some New Astrophotography Stuff

Ahh, well that certainly helps in finding it. I went out last night after reading some tips, and tried to find her but no luck. I saw Cassiopeia easily, but couldn't make out any hint of Andromeda. I was trying a method based on drawing a line between Ruchbah and Alpheratz, but I think I...
