    Ozone Generator Finished

Very nice! I bet it kicks out some serious ozone! Related to your build I recently got my hands on a MQ-131 Gaseous Ozone Sensor. I spent about a day and a half playing around with it, only to find it is not nearly as sensitive as I was hoping it would be. It is labeled on most english...

    DIY Radiography

It would be phosphor crystal size * phosphor crystals per inch. Good luck finding that data though! You're totally right btw. However, I do not feel as of yet that I have reached the point where the digital resolution is approaching on the analog resolution. Thermal pixel (sensor) noise is the...

    Saw this on various websites..

St. Elmo's Fire. Though it is odd to be at your fingertips.

    DIY Radiography

Original is 3024x4032 since I used my full spectrum 12MP camera. It'd be 16MP if I used my good camera. The detail isn't bad but I certainly didn't optimize it. I could have elevated the x-ray source so the target was in the primary lobe of the x-ray beam. I also just propped up the target...

I feel like I'm being ignored or something

I just now went and enabled it after some searching for the option... nine years after joining LPF!

I feel like I'm being ignored or something

Most of us don't get an email notification when we get a PM, we only find out by visiting the forums. Email communication is best!

    DIY Radiography

I finally got around to working on the power supply again today. What a freaking mess... gallons of mineral oil! Oh well it took forever to clean up (and there was NO spill) just from transfer on tools/gloves. I added a -140V Wehnelt Bias supply and tested the output. To my surprise the output...

    Some High Voltage Fun

Yep, grounding helps a bit but not much. The problem is if you're interested in amplitudes you need direct connection, not "aerial pickup". If you're just looking for an approximate waveform with no interest to amplitude then just do like with a TC - use an antenna and capacitive pickup with no...

    Some High Voltage Fun

Not if it is AC output. (I know, I've tried!) For pure DC sure; 1G:1Meg works well as long as you use a HV rated 1G and oil submerge the divider. The reason you can't do it for AC is the capacitive coupling bypasses the resistors because the impedance of the capacitance is an order of magnitude...

How did you get hooked on lasers?

First exposure was the old James Bond movies, but.. Late 80s or early 90s I saw my first HeNe, and shortly after were tales of the Ruby laser *my last unicorn btw, still don't have one, probably never will*. I had no hope of getting my hands on a HeNe back then due to the price. I think it was...

    Who's good with 555 Timers?

Yup all the above advice is correct. Glad you got it working! It's hard to find micro/nano sized ones without the CH340. D3 is Digital 3, yes it needs a pass transistor, especially for the Micro/Nano boards as they can only source/sink ~7mA. Set those two lines to "3" and "6" respectively for...

    Some High Voltage Fun

9V cells are only 500mAH or so, they're mainly for <10mA loads. You might get a few minutes of life out of it depending on actual draw, but most likely it would just load down the voltage terribly. Use LiPos/LiIons. Yeah, I figured you knew about the no scoping, but it's best to state things...

    This is ridiculous!

It's from 2011. We get our fair share of haters, always have. I wouldn't sweat it.

    Some High Voltage Fun

Good point. I have no idea the operational frequency of the eBay_special HV supplies though, so it may not be an issue (or just a minor one). When in doubt grab some 2CL2FMs.

    Some High Voltage Fun

Unfortunately you'll find they probably aren't even on the same operating frequency (don't scope them, you'll blow up your scope). There's no way to add them up without converting to DC. You can rectify them with a few series microwave oven diodes each, or grab some 2CL2FM diodes off of ebay.

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Regarding raising the topload up off of the secondary, this actually causes more stress on the secondary and can cause several issues with performance and longevity if it is lifted too high in regards to the top winding. It helps reduce eddy current losses in the topload to raise it, but really...

    Some High Voltage Fun

It's because you have three (possibly non-identical) oscillators which are definitely not synchronized to having the same phase relationship. You can't put out-of-sync AC sources in parallel. FWIW; DC is more lethal. (not that these will be lethal when rectified either)
  18. Sigurthr

    Need some project ideas.

The transformers, capacitors, and diodes are always valued by HV enthusiasts. Mind you, they are lethal (when powered) if precautions are not observed. The magnetrons aren't usually that valuable and can be tossed unless you want the ceramic ring magnets inside. If you do go after the magnets...

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Yep that's what I did, works great! I can't remember how many caps I sent you but I sent at least two (enough for one node at the SSTC). Yes. For anything RF the neutral line is NOT ACTUALLY TIED TO GROUND at the house junction box. RF never "sees" that tie in because the wiring impedance is so...
