There is not a simple fix, sorry to say. The green is most likely switching modes because the crystals are out of alignment. It's possible to fix, but you would need optical or thermal adhesive to put the crystal assembly back in place after realignment, and a setup to make sure it doesn't move...

I would have jumped on this, but I have the exact same laser putting out 780mW on a 3-element lens. I recently thermal glued a thick brass piece to the driver and heatsinked it to the pill. Whoever bought this will have a modest burner that is sure to last a while. Edit: Also, yes, my profile...

As long as the red says 5mW you'll be fine. I only use a 5mW red with my cat. If I manage to get a green and it tests around 10mW or less, I'll use it with my cat. And no, brightness and burning power actually say very little about the power of the laser most of the time.
