BLUE VISIBLE DIODE PUMPED CW DYE LASER

My office floor tiles have a few pink sections. Stray R6G powder is like the Spanish Inquisition, No One Expects it, and really stains everything. :-) Bleach, Alcohols, Acetone, Xylene, nothing will fully de-color the tiles, and the more you scrub with chems, the more it changes to pink...

BLUE VISIBLE DIODE PUMPED CW DYE LASER

Years ago it was done in the IR with very high gain dyes and very tiny outputs and far red or IR diode pumping. For years I've been explaining why this is very difficult in the visible, needing a flowing jet, 200 nanosecond transfer time, quenching, spot size from the diode, triplet state...

"Burning Man" festival may be getting too big

Working at a College, I can tell you DHS mandates a minimum of one sworn peace officer per 1000 persons at large public events. Your seeing the regulatory backlash from a eclectic event getting too large. It has always amazed me how Black Rock City and the corporation behind BM always got...

Sooner or later the banhammer is gonna fall

Been watching the Hong Kong political protests lately? Lasers made in China might get regulated much quicker if that "Political" use keeps up. Not that I have a problem with securing liberty, but I can think of better ways then flash blinding riot police. The Authoritarian folks might reduce...

How come laser shows are not a danger to the audience? (newbie)

When a friend went and got his audience scanning package together over the past year, the largest number of variances he could read online, for Aud Scanning were issued to Mega Churches. Followed by a few amusement parks. They at least have the funding, large enough venue, lawyers...

How come laser shows are not a danger to the audience? (newbie)

I have a peer judged award, 3rd place internationally, for ONE audience scanning show, done with a former partner. I can legally view my own show in Canada, but not in the US. That was back in the late 1990s. My CANADIAN mentors checked and rechecked that piece before it was screened. A...

How come laser shows are not a danger to the audience? (newbie)

We use Zones in hardware and software that reduce the power below the "zero" or horizon line. Scan Failure Safeguards (Required in the US) Wickedly expensive hardware, we own calibrated laser power meters, oscilloscopes, fast photodiodes set up to mimic the eye, years of training, legal...

Laser advertisement - has anyone done this?

Skytracker lamps are the major expense, 675$ per lamp for a 2KW XBO... 1500 for a 4 KW XBO rated life about 2500 hours... Which means you probably get 1800 hours.. Plus the cost of keeping the mechanics running. Looking at them on Ebay, neither they or GE /Sperry Searchlights go cheap. Steve

Laser advertisement - has anyone done this?

The variance is yearly, and FAA has nothing to do with the standard variance, , the outdoor approval is on a case by case advance notice basis. I no longer have to report indoor shows in advance unless I am conducting some very specialized effects, I do have to file my annual report. Now if...

Laser advertisement - has anyone done this?

See FAA 7400.2, Chapter 30. High Intensity Light Operations The arc light exemption is gone if your near an airport... Those guys are learning that they need to file, too. Generally FAA handles "clearing house" for laser shows. My two friends who do this on a weekly/monthly basis do not...

Laser advertisement - has anyone done this?

When Patrick or his minions typed that, they deviated to what Patrick might have had in the past. If your taking an entertainment product on the road for sales demos, it was/is two variances and a product report. For the rest of us, it is a product report and a variance. In the old days it...

Laser advertisement - has anyone done this?

OK, Lets clarify a few things. One, even if terminated, your shooting into airspace for your project: Means you need to file an FAA report. Due to a recent act of congress on Drones, FAA pretty much covers down to the surface now. Two, its not "two" variances, it is a variance and a...

Looking to build a DIY IR laser (or maybe LED) illuminator ... 980-1064nm

I have image converter tubes with long response cathodes, but that's just me... Steve

Looking to build a DIY IR laser (or maybe LED) illuminator ... 980-1064nm

Most cameras do not see anything longer then 930-940 very well. Unless your using NVGs, long wavelengths have poor response on anything with a silicon sensor. I'd avoid 1050 nm or longer, period. I frequenty work with 1064 and now 1080, and Silicon barely sees it. Steve see...

    DIY Laser Guide Star

Actually your possibly opening yourself up to a weak but possible felony charge if you don't take steps to register. GO read the lasers in airspace portion of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 and tell me it's not a poorly defined catch all law. It scared some of us who have/had...

The dangers of infrared - exaggerated?

ED50 as I understand it is that 50% of exposures result in Detectable Damage. Now do the same study to achieve a less then 1 in 100,000 or 1 in 1,000,000 Statistical Chance of Detectable Damage., which is ( I think) the requirement for Class IIIA and Class II in Humans, respectively...

Anyone have info on the Lumenis Novus Spectra?

A blue box contains a Diode driver with serious current capability and three TEC controllers plus some other goodies with a knob for current on the front. Chris, I talked to Kevin, he has two in working shape. One has your name on it for the next 48 hours, Steve
