PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

I have edited the above post as the seller issued a prepaid return shipping label and fully refunded my order. The seller was very cordial and helpful in resolving the error they made. Really was first class customer service. I believe the error was an honest mistake. I definitely will give...

PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

^ I was premature to call the vendor a scammer. I didn't realize it until a few hours ago, but they have tried to contact me multiple times about the dispute I opened. They have apologized for the mistake and have offered a couple ways to resolve including providing me with a prepaid return...

PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

^ Odd thing is the package was well packed. Nice sealed anti-static bag, Tons of tight bubble wrap. Ordered on 1/8, arrived yesterday. If it wasn't for shipping being changing to $300, I would be inclined to think the above may have been just a mistake. EDIT: While discussions with the...

PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

^ Yeah, pretty sure he/she/they is a scammer. Ordered a laser bank of NUBM08's to just play around with in odd hosts. Was supposed to be new, but got this. Beat up all the way around. Maybe they used a chainsaw to get out of projector or something. Lenses look like they may have been...

    NUBMOA diode/

Thank you RC and LT17. I'm very happy with the focus on mine, which is why I was surprised how long the beam pattern is. Very narrow. I don't think I could tighten the focus any further with the existing g-ball. I'm close to finishing the host. I'll post a picture of the stock beam pattern...

    NUBMOA diode/

I received a couple of these LD's. When testing to just make sure they work (20mA in 12mm modules), I was surprised by how long the beam pattern is with just the stock g-ball. The width is very tight. Are all 450'ish g-ball LD's like this? Wondering if holder for normal G2's, 3E's, etc...

    NUBMOA diode/

Nice build and great info. Googled to see if I could find info on these diodes. Not much out there. Found the below, but the vendor doesn't seem to have much of a track record (at least not on AE). Does anyone know if any of the counterfeit N!ch!a$ have been sold as assembled arrays...

Virgin Atlantic flight back in UK after 'laser incident'

I saw something on the news about that incident. I don't know if they were showing actual cockpit footage from that incident or just some footage they keep in stock. The beam stayed dead pan on one of the windows. No one could hold a laser that steady on a moving aircraft. Seemed to me like...

    Register your drone

^ I think both are equally impractical. That is why I said "If". Some agency (I can't remember) announced 1 million drones will be opened on Christmas day. Seems like an over estimate, but with current prices, the number will be substantial. Here is a FPV quad for $90 (day and a half...

    Register your drone

If all RC aircraft (aka "drones") are required to be registered and it's a success, lasers will be next in line. This is very different than vehicles. I can own as many cars as I want. I only have to register the ones I am currently operating on public roadways. Sad thing is, the folks that...

Promising Looking Buck Driver (17mm and 22mm)

^ Same here. I received all the parts yesterday (well, the package arrived. Haven't opened it up yet). It may be a bit before I put everything together though. Have a lot of time demands right now and still need to pick a host and mod it to hold the emitter.

Promising Looking Buck Driver (17mm and 22mm)

Thanks for the advice gentlemen. I was thinking about soldering copper sheet each pad. The sheet would then mechanically bonded to the external inductor. Actually, the order would be reversed. Like Benm recommends, I would had solder the copper sheet to the PCB as it would take way too much...

Promising Looking Buck Driver (17mm and 22mm)

^ Same here. That inductor looks pretty heavy in the pics, but then that is only a 17mm driver and the inductor pads are large. I would want to reflow the bottom first, but RMM probably has had weeks that he has reflowed more than I have in my whole life. I've reflowed a lot of double sided...

Promising Looking Buck Driver (17mm and 22mm)

The pictures in the OP are not mine. Those are RMM's that I grabbed from the thread I linked to in the OP. I wish I could make my drivers look like that. I'll add a note to the OP. Welcome to the forum RMM :)

Promising Looking Buck Driver (17mm and 22mm)

I'm with you on hand soldering, but I use cheap hot air guns for all my reflowing. My favorite is the Harbor Freight hot air gun that goes on sale for $9 periodically. It is very capable of reflowing everything from drivers to large copper parts such as DTP emitter bases to integrated copper...

Promising Looking Buck Driver (17mm and 22mm)

Thank you Benm. Really appreciate that input. :) I was wondering how much I should compensate for the 10% (5% from center both ways) current ripple. Sounds like I should be cautious and back down more than 5% from what I think the applicable diode can take. Plan on going 19kHz using fast...

Promising Looking Buck Driver (17mm and 22mm)

Ordered a set of three 17mm 4-layer boards because I should already have most of the components to build them. I may need to order the inductors and fly-back diodes. Need to scrounge though my junk, um, I mean spare parts inventory for those 2 items first.

    Blue light hazards?

I find the application f.lux helps me relax and fall asleep faster compared to not using it before calling it a night.
