I ordered a 5.8mm 405nm S06J 700mW diode from his ebay store.
He sent the wrong one, a 3.8mm 405nm diode.

This diode was for a customer, so it was quite important to get it correct.
Upon closer inspection, powering it with my variable bench power supply, it was a 405nm diode as well, so I came to the conclusion that it must be the BDR-209 900mW diode which is the only diode I know he sells in a 3.8mm package.
After reaching 200mA mark, the diode blew!

I messaged him on ebay, and he sent me the correct one immediately.

Just wanted to write this thread to show my appreciation towards him!
Thank you very much, excellent customer care on your end.

was the 3.8mm diode in a heat sink when you tested it? if not, then how long did you let stay on? What was the voltage set at? I only ask because the 3.8mm diode are very sensitive.

It was already pressed into its housing and heatsinked as I was anticipating a ~1W diode.
The voltage was set to 1V, and current at 500mA max on my Riden bench power supply.
I then rose the voltage slowly, thinking to reach 500mA, but the diode blew at 200mA unfortunately.
It was on for about 5 seconds.

Sharp GH04W10A2GC 350mW/1.1W(Pulse) 405nm Laser Diode
This 405 diode is a killer 5.6mm package I built a few with high out put they are survivors and tough.

R. I think that he was building for another. He states that it was an soj6 that he needed. It was supposedly a BDR that he tested and it blew at 200mAh while reaching for 1W at 500mAh ??????......he needs the Sharp GH04W10A2GC ! I will never go back to a single mode.

Hi,
For sure im building one now in a 501B purple host with a AL sink powder coated in a translucent violet coating.
I will assemblies with that diode. These diodes are awesome. will post the host soon.

Here it is the driver will be set to 1550mA for the 405 diode lens yet to be determined.
The host holds 2X18350;s

I am very confused at your settings and the diode.
I ordered a S06J for a customer to build into a host. This diode is a 5.6mm package. I instead recieved a 3.8mm Diode.

I powered it slowly to see which wavelength it was.
The output wavelength was 405nm.
I assumed it was DTR's BDR-209 as that is the only 405nm 3.8mm diode he sells.
So, I increased current with my psu to 200mA and the diode died.
My power supply was in Constant Current mode.

DTR has kindly sent me a BDR-209.
