Hi all,
I've been casually interested in lasers for a long time. When I was in school in the mid 2000's I interned at an NMR lab that was using lasers + rubidium to polarize xenon. (Hyperpolarization if you are interested)

No stranger to electronics, been building homemade drone's for a bit, built a 3d printer, working on a DIY CNC mill. Software engineer by trade.

I went on an internet tangent and scooped up 3 lasers from Sanwu. 80mW green, 100mW violet, 200mW red.
I also scooped up a few 445 diodes from ebay. A few 2W M140s and a 7W NUBM44-V2.

Not sure what I'm going to do with them just yet. Will definitely use the green for astronomy. And I will run young's double slit experiment at some point.
Beyond that, I just got the powerful 445 diodes because they seemed like a cool thing to have, they may just sit in a box for a while.

If anyone has suggestions for interesting things to do with lasers I'm all ears. Will poke around the forums a bit, but I'm really here because my ADD got the better of me one night and now I have a 9th hobby.

I've already got a pair of OD6+ goggles on the way.
Excited at the possibility of trying out a neat experiment or two.

Welcome to the forums! 👾 I also do astronomy as well. Live in the city though, so have to be really careful about shining any of my lasers into the sky.

Definitely a great choice with the Sanwu lasers, I have their pocket 488, favourite of my collection. Probably going to be getting one of the Challenger IIs soon, just can't decide on what wavelength!

That's really cool to try the double slit experiment, maybe even upgrade to the Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser version of the double slit experiment. 😁

That's a great idea! If I can find some cheap optics on ebay for it, I would definitely be into it.

Thorlabs has a kit for $2,000, but obviously that's a little much. I noticed on DTR's site that you can rip apart some projectors to get some good glass. I'll definitely keep that in mind and try to build up to it. Thanks!
