Awesome build Curtis! I love 3D printing but I never even thought a host could be made from that. Definitely unique.

Hope the heat is minimal as that plastic is quite a heat bank.

Thanks Snecho. :)
Yes the diode doesn’t generate a great deal of heat. I have a steel heatsink and it sticks out of the host slightly allowing passive cooling. I was careful with heat management due to the fact that my host would be naturally insulative.

I did think that diode didn't heat up too much. Glad to hear it works as intended! And I'm sure you did actively plan the heat dissipation with the print. Very well done 😄

Nice build, nice to see something a little different!

Picked a nice wavelength for your first build.

Obviously the diode does get warm and I give the laser a duty cycle to be on the safe side but nothing serious to worry about. Thanks Snecho
Congrats on your build, are you planning another one yet ? It is addictive fun. :)
Thanks Robert, funny enough yes. I have had a 505 diode for a while doing nothing. I’ve contacted Jordan for a driver for it. Once I receive the driver you can expect another build like this but with another great wavelength.:)

Thanks Adam, glad you found it a nice change.
And yes, I love this wavelength. My favourite thing to do atm is shine this laser up next to my other cyan and see the difference.

It is pretty amazing how much the color seems to change between 486nm and 493nm. This is especially true when two lasers are compared.

3D printing is the way to go today for prototyping; a year ago i printed a whole raman system and it is still working.
So ... why not ... next year we will throw the project away .... or not .... because it still works ...
Let us share the stl ?
Greetings
Bernd

Exactly. That the great thing about designing and building your own system too. If something breaks I can replace parts. If you want the STL file I can upload it for you when I get back onto my laptop.
