Would this come with/without stock lens?

So, im hoping i didnt mess up here,
i accidentally ordered "NDG7475 520nm Diode In 12mm Copper Module W/Driver" from DTR WITHOUT a lens.

i was meaning to order this with a lens, does this mean the module will come with the stock lens? this is a problem because i have nada a clue how to remove the stock lens, nor do i trust myself to remove it if i could.

i plan to use the G8 lens i have on hand. i hoping this can still be a come in the mail, screw in a g8 and go, i have already broke a diode trying to get the stock lens off before.

i have always assumed the metal "case" around the diode was a lens. Nichia-Powerful-1W-520nm-Green-Laser-Diode-NDG7475-.jpg

even worse, its already too late to cancel the order.

Thanks alot all!

He normally sends them with a plastic lens just to keep the diode window sealed. Easy to unscrew and screw in your lens, there will be no issues unless you put your lens in backwards, but then it just won’t properly collimate, won’t hurt anything.

awesome, this calms my nerves. what is the steel "lens" looking thing at the ends of diodes called? just a protector?

That is the cap you circled, it is meant to be permanent, unless the window in the cap gets damaged, never remove it.

Don’t run the diode without the assembly sealed with a lens, or let dust get inside. If a large enough piece of dust lands on the glass window, it can burn a mark on it or crack, then requiring the can to be removed.

Edit: If de-canned and dust gets on the laser chip there is no recovery for that and some diodes dont last as long when exposed to air.

Since you bought a module the laser diode is already pressed into a holder, not easy to remove without a special tool, so more complicated to fix due to that too.

Glad you chimed in quick Chris..:)
Kyle, that is called a can or a canned diode. Like Alaskan said the little hole on the can has a glass window to further protect the emitter inside.
Your module will come with a plastic lens as DTR always ships them that way when someone doesn't order it with the lens option. Just more protection from dust.
Just swap out the plastic lens and put the G8 in. There should be a very mild spring inside behind the plastic lens that is there to put pressure on the back of the lens so the focus hold's better. Don't let it pop out and fly when you remove "unscrew" the plastic lens, and re install it when you put the G8 in. You don't have to but we find it is better to hold focus.
Don't power it up with the plastic lens either, its only good for up to 300mw maby and will melt at 1W+..

Hi,
OMG ordered by mistake thats a great choice you kidding me. Your going to love that 520nm diode. And you already have the G8 lens perfect combo buddy. Wait till you lite that up your going to need sunglasses LOL.. One of my favorite diodes and worth the extra cash.
take your time building it . congratulations on your purchase DTR has the best stuff available to us.

That mistake is a great choice, just add the G8 lens and the divergence will be lower than you would otherwise have with a G2 lens, you might be satisfied enough with it to forget the beam expander idea I wrote to you about in private PM.

I think he wanted the NDG7475 but forgot to add the G8 lens option and I think he happens to have a G8 in hand also thats he hoping will fit the Dtr module??

Hi, As Alaskan said the G8 with the NDG7475 will be fine without the BE. . Theres nothing like a canned diode and with that G8 lens.
press the easy button..

Thanks alot all, very excited! I noticed DTR does not have any sign in on his page. I assume there is some kind of automated system that sends you shipping details?

Once you have filled your order you will be sent to either PayPal or I believe you can use a credit card. There's no need to sign in as the information comes from your PayPal account or you can add it at the time of payment.
