Nice, I really like the 405, it's such a special dark mystic color, so understated.
I have a BDR-209 and it will reach out where the multi modes get too diverged to burn, well except my corrected 44's although a corrected 7875 could do well I would bet.

I wish they would make a 32x Blu-ray burner or a 64x Blu-ray burner, a 4 or 5 watt single mode 405 made to write on a disc would be epic, I can hear the sizzle and popping. :D

I think what a lot of people don't think about is the way that what our eyes see at a distance is much bigger than it looks. Perspective tricks us because a street light is a lot bigger than it looks, and a 445nm MM at 50 feet has given up a lot in spot size next to the single mode 405.

Anyway here's a couple clips that make a good point about divergence, notice the 2.5 watt 445 needs a helper lens and the .5 watt 405 goes to work as is.

Too bad they didn't use the same orange or black balloons in those vids. The 16x would have still been much quicker. Beam power density. Would be more interesting to see a large mix of colored balloons. I know that I've seen people do this with water balloons which looks cooler.
I used to be able to find clear balloons at Walmart to do the pop the darker inside balloon trick. Bet Party City has them or online of course. All you do is blow up a darker balloon inside a clear balloon and you can pop the inside one first.
You used to see people showing videos of things like that and others such as popping a corn kernal when the first high powered stuff came out. Haven't looked to see what's out there now. Must be pretty easy to pop a kernal of corn now.

I would like to see a vid with it being run on a meter before I would accept the Power rating on this build. Even if you had a pick of the litter out of 50 405nm 16x diodes and binned the diode I highly doubt the power output as stated.

I only question this as I have had cherry picked 16x burners with the G-2 lens struggled to get 1W at about the 800mA range, big difference for a 405 in every 100mW ranges (1W to 1.1W to 1.2). I came close when I left the unit in the freezer just before testing.

edit; I achieved the above rating using a massive Mag-lite heatsink. I hope at minimum there is a copper sink in that C-8 in the OP.

oh!. really great . The 405nm BDR209 is bright than Green 80mw?
I don't believe so. A 1W "445nm" is close to a 100mw 532 green. A 405nm isn't very visable even at high power.
There is a comparison "calculater" that has been posted, I can't find it yet maby someone will chime in with it.
What do you know I found it and saved it! According to this the 405 at 1.2W is 24% as bright as a 100mw532

Yeah, you could pull off some tricks with a 405 and pop some stuff stealth wise with it although the lack of visibility makes it more dangerous to mess with.

i love violet light. Nice!!! The 1.2 w output is too high for a single mode diode . Is it still alive?

Cool colo, I really interested in violet laser
I usually see almost 16x violet diodes run in about 500-650mA ~ 1w-1w1 with lens G2
I have been set one at 850mA and it is die after 2 days! And at 1A, really i haven’t seen yet!
