Hi all,
I have a 50mW DX laser I plan to use as a telescope finder. I would like to take it apart so I can move the power switch to the telescope mount, and allow it to be continuously on for a few minutes at a time.
I could either replace the switch with a couple of wires leading to a new...
High powered LED power supplies hold a lot of promise for driving laser diodes. However LD's need constant current supplies much lower than 800mA. A 200mW LD probably needs 250mA or so. 800mA would kill it in a hurry. Look for an adjustable current supply from 50-250 mA or so or build your own...
BFG lowered their specs a lot more than they lowered their price; they are no longer the cheapest. Ultra Lasers, NOVA Lasers and Dragon Lasers all have lasers in the same price range and power, and they all have much better reputations. If price is your main concern, try DealExtreme.
BFG has a...
Couple comments:
I do not at all doubt Pseudo had a bad experience with DL. I only question the theory that having stock when other's are out of stock means they are chronically scamming people.
Agree it might be a good idea to order by phone, not on the web, and sound knowledgeable about...
I'll add that the only quality/satisfaction statistic we have is in the poll for your most favorite laser company. Dragon Lasers is the second best.
So to cover all bases I added an opposite poll - vote for your least favorite.

So we have a poll for your favorite, now how about a poll for your least favorite?
Vote for a laser company you have purchased from and were dissatisfied with your purchase. Was the laser underpowered? Did it break or fall apart too quickly? Poor customer service? You can vote more than once...
Do you really think DL or others are in cahoots with the forum admins, and the forum admins give the laser vendors all of our real names and addresses so they can be sure to sell the good ones to us and the junk to everyone else?
I have some beachfront property in Phoenix for you. At least it...
I created a chart for red and green lasers showing the laser price plotted against the price per mW. All of this data came from Marianne's table.
Enjoy!

Suggesting DL is scamming people because they do not run out of stock as often as some other vendors is a bit weak. At best it suggests some risk but it would have to be further backed up with actual power measurements. Having been burned by BFG I am sensitive to this, but OTOH I don't want to...
I used to be in to the amateur astronomy stuff. If you are doing any serious observing, down to mag 9 or more, the 5mW Core will be great. With dark sky's and dark adapted eyes you really will NOT want anything brighter.
For informal star parties pointing out constellations and planets, and no...
Chimo,
Let us know when you get the circuit schematic reverse engineered. I am interested in it. My DX 50 probably has the same circuit. Mine seems to have variations in the output like an underdamped circuit. I'm curious why and if it can be tweaked.

LOL that's great! I didn't realize the forum software automatically replaced certain words with "I'm a stupid spammer". Can I get the list of words?
