Thanks for the rep  I've had it since last November, and no it doesn't appear to be dying yet.. to be fair though I don't use it as much now as I did when I first got it so no way of telling really. all I can say is that it's not shown any sign of fading away yet.
That other laser looks...
Yeah it's pricey, I was in two minds whether to get it or not, glad I did though.
Sure yeah, it pops balloons instantly, lights matches in about 2 seconds. and while I've not tried burning through a CD case with it, it will cut through the handle of a black bin bag in around 25 seconds with a...
Well I don't have an LPM so I can't tell you for sure but it's certainly very bright so I wouldn't be surprised if it is a real 150mW that's been modded.
I'll post some pictures later tonight so you can see for yourself. as for burning it pops balloons, lights matches, and can cut through the...
I've got the august 50mW and it's a nice laser, well made and will just about burn with fresh batteries. I've also got sky's 150mW potmodded flashlight style green which is awesome for the money, it's my 2nd best green. don't be put off by the fact that sky's adverts say 'power output 1mW' they...
Thanks. yeah the third one did come out well, it's refracting off our cheapy plastic chandelier.. I shine my lasers at that quite a lot :D looks even better when it's moving. another good effect is shining lasers as Christmas tree tinsel, as I found out last Christmas.
Ok sorry for the delay. I've got it focused properly now and calculated the divergence to be 0.6mRad using pseudonomen137's excellent calculator. it's a nice module, recommended for anyone wanting a powerful laser that's easy to build.. but I do suggest waiting till the exchange rate is more...
Cheers and thanks for the rep . I'll have to work out the divergence properly in the morning, but for now and the way I have it focused the dot is about 2cm from about 6 feet away. I need to make myself a focusing tool to get it set properly to infinity, as you can see the lens doesn't...
So here is my first attempt at making a laser, can't really say I built it as all I had to do was bypass the switch on the driver and insert the module into the host, but anyway here is what I've created, and how..
First of all here are the components used and where to get them..
200mW 532nm...
As I said further up it's the (SKY150) part to take note of as this will be the real output, or close to it. I know this because I spoke to SKY via email through their store on Ebay, when I was thinking of getting another laser, to confirm the 'real' output.. if you buy it just contact them...
I got mine from Amazon just before they had a crackdown on all pointers over 1mW and took all of SKYs products off the site. it's back on there now though, just search for 'Green Laser Factory Pot Modded'.
I didn't read your post properly, the "1mW (SKY120)" is just SKYs way of getting around the 1mW max laws here in the UK.. and probably other countries too. it's the bit in () that's important. it will be 120mW or there abouts.
I have that one too. I'm assuming you're looking at these lasers on...
I can't say anything about that particular laser but I do have one of their 150mW greens, the potmodded one. it's my best green ATM, well made and powerful.
I know I meant for the CD cases. personally I'd leave the laser in the tripod on the table and have matches stuck in the ground or something at 1 foot intervals down the garden. that way you'll eliminate any shaking from holding the match.
It wasn't even focused?! didn't notice that, just assumed it was.. damn that's even more impressive then. I'd try and see just how far it will light a match from seeing as you have a tripod.
