Hi,
registered here a few minutes ago to find out some safety info and couldn't not notice this forum. A lot of interesting stuff :)
Doubtful, but maybe someone will find mine interesting too (first time playing with laser):
"Memory"
Yes, I know, I should use mirrors and steppers, but I don't need speed and the thing seems more interesting to look at this way :)

Is that just some science fair project your doing in 5th grade? Your comparing memories to a 405 nm on a glow board?

I can see the picture sort of. Can you explain this more... Like what you did and the mechanics behind it?

Looks more like an artistic installation to me...

Kivig, I like it, makes for nice effects!
Is the on/off signal totally random, or where does it come from?

Pretty nice... I have a 20mW 405nm on my keychain, and not too long ago at a party there was an artist using all sorts of fluorescent paints, ect. With his permission I drew some purple lines on his freshly painted artwork & we were both impressed with how cool it looked, how long the paint will still glow after the light stimulated the surface - leaving light trails sort of like psychedelics & your first 'dot' (if you're ever experienced psychedelix)

Anyways... nice. I could play around for hours with some glow paint, a few lasers & under 'the right circumstances' :D

I wish I'd have materials to do it in 5th grade :)

As you said mechanics are quite simple - a microprocessor reads image layers from SD card, turns on/off and moves the laser with servo motors according to it.

Thanks! It's not random as just explained. Though the idea was to make it barely recognizable.

I wasn't trying to be insulting if I came off that way I'm sorry. I was just wondering how and why you came up with the concept. I'd like to see how you made this as well. And how you set up the processor to read the image would be nice.

Cool Project

EDIT: I have 2 picture frames with glow paint on the canvas in them. They work awesome one is 1X1.5' and the other is 3 X2'.

This has cheap ebay pointer. I'm searching for something more powerful at a reasonable price. But looking through reviews it seems that there are the same 20-50mw diodes everywhere even when advertised as 200mw.
Maybe someone knows where to get something that is real?

No need to apologize - this really is very basic for microprocessor oriented people :)
I used Arduino with sd adapter and reprogrammed a fat16 reading script for reading bitmaps. As for external electronics there are optocouplers as relays to take the load off the board.

I'm not sure I understand... something real?

Sorry :) What I meant is there are pointers that are modified to perform over their specifications and sold as more powerful or just lying about specification. I'm curious if anyone have got something of decent power to be sure about what I might buy.

NP, O-like is a good company

If you don't see what you like there

This is another cheap but makes good lasers company

www.rayfoss.com

EDIT: Oh im sorry I missed that your looking for just the Diodes.... Let me look.... O-like sells diodes to... Look in the "Laser Pro Shop" section of our forum and you'll find the Driver you want...

Gotcha... something stronger than 20mW then. I was just drawing (ha) a parallel with using 405nm on GITD paint :D I bid you a happy venture with finding some good 405nm power.

I will second Krog on o-like also, they are a very reliable chinese company respected on this forum. Only downside is the time is takes to ship to you, which can sometimes keep you waiting ~1 month

You also could use a 445nm diode, driven at 300~400ma.
445nm works fine on GITD, almost just like 405nm.

But a 8x or 12x BluRay burner diode will give a neater spot.
