M140 445NM 2W Laser with Copper Heatsink.

Finally finished the build and popped In the batteries and it did turn out very bright and painful. The laser has a G2 lens and a M140 diode put inside, to go with the custom copper Heatsink for longer duty cycles!

Specifications
M140 with X-Drive in Copper module with Copper diode housing.
Custom host with copper Heatsink made by ehgemus.
Fits 2x 18350 batteries.
1.3 Hour per charge (definately need to be mentioned)
Duty cycle: 5Mins without too Hot.
G2 glass lens
Case POSITIVE

Pictures

Diode Module
NOTE: IF you are looking to build a laser, go DTR! 2-Day delivery and instant shipping!

Build Setup

-Soldering Iron
-High quality flux
-Laser host
-Laser module
-heatshrink tubing
-extra wires (incase)
-silicone grease (not needed)
-magnifying glass (not needed)
-Sponge (or something wet)
-Helping hands (not needed)
-An extra set screw (incase but VERY important)
-Allen wrench (mine is 4-40)
-something to drink (LOL)

Note, In the first picture here I actually accidently shrinked the tube by putting too close to the iron (LOL) but I managed to get a new tube from the hardware store, unsolder the joints and slide the tube and connect again then shrink it! Also I bent the wrench too hard and broke the setscrew, I managed to get it out and buy a new one (4-40). That was close.

BeamShots

Note, MORE pictures will be added soon, I will also upload TONS of vids of it in action.

Hi L,
Well you did it nice , one thing cut down on the pics a little, lots of doubles HaHa..
congradulations a 5 min run time wow for that heat sink is be careful . No more long running time like that if you want the diode to last. Im guessing that you have a xdrive 1.8A in there and if you want to clean that lens use alcohol and a soft eye glass cleaning cloth. What batteries are you using in there?
Get you ESD mat and wrist band buddy i said before static is a killer. and you will have something to put your work on without messing up the table. 63/37 x .32 solder is good to use also rosin core.
Nice host and good job whats next ??

It didn't get that hot as expected. I did take it outside but after a few mins my eyes got dizzy so I came back. Should of worn safety glasses but I really wanted to see the beam.

I'm using 2x 18350 3.7V Measured at 4.17V
I'm planning to sell it by next year before I move to New York and I think you will not be able to shine any lasers anymore.

I will give you a PM when I want to sell it. Right now I am thinking to build a small one (pen host) about the size of a pencil to carry with me but I don't know how I will fit a complete module inside..

Yea was really excited to build another one, Im looking forward to get a very compact one like the 1.6w dtr built so I can carry it around and lightweight as well. If it's a little hard, I might go with the Sanwu challenger II with 3W!
Thanks anyway

I didn't like you making so many threads at first, but I gotta say, that's a pretty nice first build you did there. You took more than enough pictures of the building process and some nice beamshots. Enjoy the laser!

Im curious why you said pen hosts are harder to build? Is it because Laserbeamk wants one in the 1.5W range. You are talking about the ebay pen style? Or am I way off.
It may have to do with direct pressing I guess and also hard to fit it all inside without breaking. I'm not meaning the Ebay ones with a side switch, it's the one Dtr built in one of his reviews.

Thanks I will upload some more when the neighbors are asleep. I'm afraid it will attract so much cops.

I'm not talking about those shitty ebay Penn hosts I'm talking about real pen hosts. Jayrob sells them and styropyro has a few videos on them. I also have a few and they are not easy to build if you have no experience.

You're not alone. I too only use my powerful lasers around 1AM at night or even later. I've already had cops almost take my laser once, luckily they didn't know that you can unfocus lasers to make it look like a regular flashlight :eg:

Noobphaser215, I just saw Jayrobs build didnt even know they were there Yup that is a hard looking build for a begginner. It is cool you can have it in your front pocket all day and know one would ever know:yh:
