Or put an LPC in there...it would make it look like an antique red laser....like something aliens left thousands of years ago and has been sitting in dust for too long....would be cool I think

Thought sand/polish would be the main way :( I could get it sand blasted too :D Not sure if my dad has a sand blaster at his work though, ill have to ask him. I thinks ill just leave it like this if i cant get it sand blasted at my dads work because its my first build and it doesnt have to be great, i anything that could of gone wrong with this build, did and i have learnt a lot from it. Im just going to put a phr in it, not a lpc mainly because i have a driver already set to 125mA and i also dont have safety glasses for red either. I will have to get the front of the heat sink crapetised again (if there is no sand blaseting option) because i sanded and polished it :D

EDIT: I might put a red diode in if i can get a 16x dvd burner (got to check computer repair shop tomorrow) because i blew my 2 phr's so it will take 2 weeks for new ones to get here. I will just use it outside at night for pointing long distance because i dont have glasses. The driver is lazeerer's x-drive and it has a pot, so i could adjust the pot for a 16x dvd burner diode. Whats the minimum wattage of resistor i need for a temporary test load (until i get an actualy 3A test load) i will only need to set it to abut 250mA (if the driver can provide that much because it is meant to be set at 125mA's for a phr, but like i said it has a pot so i can let more current flow).

I once used a 1/4 Watt resistor for a test load while it was dissipating 1.5W :D It got pretty hot after about 10 seconds. Max current for the red DVD burner diodes are around 500mA IIRC, so a 2W resistor should be fine (What I use ATM)

I know the max current for an lpc is 500mA, is that what they use in all 16x burners, i wouldn't think so?

No, they don't use LPC 826's in the DVD burners, but IIRC the max current is also 500mA.

Just did some research, the max you should push a 16x and still have a decent lifespan is 300mA.

I'm very sorry:eek: My memory failed me, I should have first done some research.

"YE YE YE YE LIVE ACTION!!!" - Turtle Man
Dad just came home and said he has a mate with a few old dvd burners and he also has a sand blaster at work. I will be getting all the dvd burners and the host sand blasted within a week hopefully.

I have a guidesman M140 build from a year old build. The wires ripped off the diode and I have yet to re solder them. Also the driver cavity was glued improperly and is loose and causing switch problems. All probably fixable. I'm willing to sell the whole thing. PM me.

Anyone still make heatsinks for these? I have 3 of them, but no heatsinks.

Contact MrCrouse, he makes heat sinks. You will need to ship then to him for fitting though.

I happen to have in excess of twenty Guidesman heatsinks already done as surplus, so if anybody wants to order any, they're next-day shipping. Since I'd like to get rid of them, we can work out unique deals.

If anybody's interested, let me know.
