I really wanted that! You beat me to it! If he is going to make another one I'd like the same thing built but threaded on the end to accept a JL beam expander.

Alaskan, I was just thinking the same thing after seeing that other host which takes the JL expander, I would have loved to have this one take that!

Can you post a photo of the other stub on the side? Is it another on-off button?

No it is not, just as very beautiful cone with in inverted cone going back into the center of it, do you still want a head on picture of it? Sorry for the late reply I just got home from work.

Edit: You probably mean the disc thing on the side, I actually am not sure of the function of it, maybe for a lanyard or rope to tie to? It just has screw in it going into the body in the middle, not sure the purpose of it honestly.

Aha, it's artwork, but that would have been a good place to put an on-off button instead. I want it!

Back for an edit: Naw, the more I think of it, it must be for a lanyard, but normally I think he would have included it, that would be a good place to tie a leather loop.

Right! And also, I'm not sure if he intended this or not but i always set it down on that piece so it doesn't roll at all, it works perfectly for that!

Here I have a NDB7A78 diode in it using a 4 mode driver with high
mode set to 4a. Using 2x26650 MNKE batteries, or can use
2x18650's with adapter sleeves. I have since changed the diode
to a de-canned NUBMO7E, same driver.
At some point will change to a NUBM44 I have and SXD driver set at 5.5a.
The 465nm-470nm coming out of the 10x BE is an awesome sight,
and may be a while before I swap diodes....

cheers,
Moe

That's awesome, I'm really glad to see more use of beam expanders with these otherwise high divergence laser diodes and nice looking, very nice host. These must be a labor of love for Harold, for the prices he charges. I've tried to get a couple of other well known members here to build hosts and they just aren't very interested unless the price approaches 1,000 dollars.

Does Ehgemus even have a established metal wholesaler he,s so secretive and I find that great:shhh:. If he is picking up scraps here and there to make these beautys even amplifies his labor of love

Bar stock is not that expensive, even if you buy from ebay, now a good lathe with tooling and large tap and die set can set you back a few bucks. Quite a few.

aluminum round bar stock | eBay

When you consider the cost of tooling and the labor involved you see that for the casual builder that buying from Ehgemus is a great deal.

Yes, he orders from an established company through the mail, or via ebay. I know that much, but he may have other local sources too. The hosts he offers on the forum are always the best deals, often in the range of 40-120 dollars but I'll be damned if I can catch some of them in time. I'm checking the BST section twice a day every day to look and see if he has put something up.
