Is there any BIG host for the new NUBM06? Since they produce some much power they would need a big host/heatsink.

Same type of sink as the nubm44, good cells and duty cycle are also a big factor, I like fins where possible, deeper ring fins with fluting look good and add a lot of surface area multiplication, but the 06 is only slightly more powerful than the 44.

DTR hits his 6.8w limit at 4.5a but is under 6.8w at 4.4a so 6.95 watts for the nubm44 at 4.5amps is about right, the nubm06 hit 7.75watts on ABarnetts meter at 4.5 amps, so we are talking only an 8% power increase, but the divergence is better, the line is 25% shorter or you can say the nubm44 is 33% longer and that means more watts in a tighter spot for the nubm06, I put my corrected 44 next to a bench top corrected 06 and it is 25% less wide, spot height is comparable.

Both are basically 7 watt diodes as far as what we can push them to, the 06 is less divergent on the highly divergent axis and with every foot the beam travels that advantage shines through. Spot height is comparable, so the gain is really 8% and 12.5% or 16.5% depending on how you look at it because the height axis looks the same.

I would not recommend the 3 element for either of these diodes as the energy loss in lens heat is palpable, you can feel the lens sucking down 2 watts and getting hot fast, a G7 in the wide housing is much better and a G2 is the best but correction is needed except for short distance work, if a single lens only I like the G7 in the 5mm long body for general use and the G2 for close up work, the G7 looks as good far field as the 3 element, plus a fraction of length, but well worth it.

But heat sink requirements are comparable to the nubm44.

Do you know where I can find a MX900 and heatsink like the one from Budget Beams?

I'm having flaminpyro make me a pair. You can shoot him a PM. I'll advise you if you do order a mx900 have it shipped to him so you don't loose out on shipping.

Red hooked me up with the link to buy the mx900 at.
