I know they have said in the past that they are gonna be selling LPMs, but this is looking more promising...

I'm not sure if its a thermopile... but that design with the thermopile inside the case seems like its gonna give inaccurate results.

But if it was an optical sensor... That might mean that only low power lasers can be metered... which kinda works out nicely for them, but is pretty much retarded if they wanted to sell large quantities of them.

I'm wondering if those 4 pads on the left side are for USB connections for data logging and stuff :D

If that top view of the PCB is anything to go by, it's not USB. But there could (and probably is) more circuitry on the underside.

If they are anything like i've heard from most people on here, seems that they may try to use this as a gimick (using a purposely miscalibrated lpm to show higher powers and if someone teets it with another lpm and gets lower results they can claim that the person's lpm is miscalibrated/wrong)

One would think that WL is shooting themselves in the foot with this one.. I mean, half their lasers are somewhat underspec, right? Now their customers will know too.

I was thinking something very much along the same lines...Finally we might start seeing some 1 W Kryptons and Arctics! ;)

That was my exact thought too...

Anyway, these could possibly be good to hack and improve on which would be cool.... But knowing Wicked lasers... the LPM will probs cost $1000+

It seems like on optical LPM to me as well...

On this WL page they let the cat out of the bag I think...

How do I know that my handheld laser is delivering its full advertised power?
Measuring the output of a portable handheld laser is relatively easy. We use a Coherent LaserCheck Power meter, along with other laboratory equipment, to ensure that laser output is what we say it is. If you would like to check for yourself, you can obtain a Pocket Laser Power Meter from websites such as eBay. You can also visually compare our laser modules to a >5mW green laser pointer to see the dramatic difference

reverse engineer their in house Coherent LC LPM...

That, OR they're making these so that they give readings much higher than what is truely being measured and they make their lasers look that much better.

I am thinking the EXACT same thing, the arctics will show at 1W but when measured on a calibrated meter it will be closer to 600-800mw, imagine of
The output of that meter was just x2'd so a 500mw arctic is 1000mw :eek:

It most likely connects to the headphone port of an iPhone or android phone for mobile graphing.

Yeah but then they'd have to get the app approved in the app store & all that fiasco :p they'd probably charge for the App aswell :(

Although mobile graphing sounds cool.
