get Daves for $300 or buy a Blue Fan Basic.....Blue fan basic starts at 70 EURO which is $90 USD. blue fan can be found HERE and you can email them to find out more about costs. you can get a LPM under $100 but its not going to be decked with bells and whistles

Yes! Get Dave's! I forgot about the blue fan. I haven't read much about it, but it seems like I came across a post questioning their accuracy. Don't quote me on that though.

I'm going to say this with no insult intended: Perhaps you should do much more research in the LPM section of the forum before dropping $ on a system you might not be happy with.

i will say that ARG has recommended the blue fan for members looking for cheap LPMs. We all know how much ARG strives and hounds people about accuracy of their meters so id say they are accurate just from that. he may own one as well since i know he has like 8 LPMs

If you´re short on money, I would suggest you to get a cheap one, as you´re looking for, first to test out a bit.

I had the HLPM II from Laserbee, think it was around $60 when I purchased it new from Laserbee (you can contact member Lasersbee if he still has one available).

If you knew that you would like to stay longer playing with laser, save the money on a cheap Laserpowermeter and invest it for a better one. But as I said, if you´re still unsure, try to contact Lasersbee for example.

Okay it's $70, it looks and sounds very good for the price, I'm considering getting it if I can afford it with the other lasers I want to buy. I'll PM laserbee now to make sure he has some in stock.

I have a bluefan LPM, it has always been within about 50mW of what my lasers built by other trusted members got on their LPMs.

The only thing that sucks about the bluefan, is the super slow read time, takes 30 - 45 seconds for it to get the full reading, I usually prime it with a more powerful laser than the one I am testing just so I can see the true max, and not the max after 45 seconds of heat buildup in the host and heatsink.

It works for confirming that what your were sold is legit though.

Going to be upgrading soon when I have the money. Need faster read times, and the 2W max reading isn't gonna cut it anymore, Ill be on my 3rd 9mm build soon and I NEED TO KNOW if I actually am hitting over 3 watts, cant stand not knowing.

If you have some patience my laserbeeII will probably hit the used market in about one week and a half.

well after seeing Dave's Scientech 365 .
It pretty much blew all the competition CLEAN OFF THEIR FEET!
A true tried and tested disk calorimeter !

However , there is a problem tho .
I just read through the manual , what about the datalogging feature?
Is there something I can do to feed the readings directly into my PC and plot the mW - time graph so I can check the diode stability?

What about repairs?
Who do I go to if something goes KAPUT ?
Do I go to Scientech or do I go back to Dave?

This is all so confusing :cryyy:

As for the Bluefan option. $90 bucks?
Its price is VERY reasonable , but how is he making it so cheap????
Its so cheap it starts to make people think .....

Yes it is just a sensor, but depending on what you are looking for in a LPM it might be just enough to have the sensor and a Digital Multimeter.
With that you will have a LPM.

The Ophir IS JUST A SENSOR!

Like I said, it has its usefulness all by itself, as you can wire it to 2 9Vs and a DMM and have that be your METER. It's low tech, but accurate.

What that lacks is data logging. That's what an LPM is for. You've had several systems mentioned already.

You can buy a meter by itself to tie it with whatever sensor you want. eg: Ophir, TEC, etc. You have various choices in meters that work with different sensors, which you can buy together as a package, or piece it together as you see fit.

Since you say you're only interested in avoiding getting screwed on a laser, a whole LPM system is more than you need. An Ophir would work for what you want it for, and be expandable when you want.

Data logging can be achieved with a logging Digital Multimeter, and depending on what multimeter you use, you can get much more accurate readings than any LPM meter.

This forum is the best book you can read. Start from the basics, the stickies, and make research from there. You don't need to purchase any books, it's all here, just a matter of how much time you dedicate yourself to read.
