hey everyone,

currently i am building an MS-SSW 9mm at 2.2 amps,

ive searched and searched for batteries and i came to the trustfire 26650 batteries that Blord reviewed, but then i read a few threads saying that the King Kong Batteries are the best 26650 batteries,

so i sent Hakzaw1 a PM and he replied saying that he had none in stock, he then gave me a link to some King Kong batteries on ebay, but sadly they don't ship to Australia :(

so are the trustfires that Blord reviewed be sufficient enough? or should i buy the King Kong batteries (from where i don't know) if anyone has a link to them i'd greatly appreciate it

cheers, will

If you want unprotected, these have slightly more capacity than protected king kong:1 piece of King Kong ICR 26650 3.7V 4200mah Li-on Unprotected Battery_Battery_Battery&Charger_Electronics Wholesale online

here are the protected ones:1 piece of King Kong ICR 26650 3.7V 4000mah Li-on Protection Battery_Battery_Battery&Charger_Electronics Wholesale online

these state they have higher capacity, but i don't have experience with them:1 piece of TrustFire Genuine 26650 3.7V 5000mAh Li-on Protection Battery_Battery_Battery&Charger_Electronics Wholesale online

not sure if this site is the cheapest, but they have one of the better selections of 18650 and 26650 batteries

the trustfires are good and unlike the others not longer due to having protection PCBs and run out to about 4300mAh in my experience. can tend to get them for around 10 bucks each in the right places.

Thanks to everyone for all the links and advice :)

Do you think that I should buy the 2 pack trustfires from fasttech for $16.50 or the king kong ones from CN?

Thanks a ton for everyone's input

Fasttech TF26650's are pretty good, Actual capacity is 4000mAh, but if i were you i would get Panasonic 18650 3400's for the MS-SSW instead , and use the teflon sleeve with it.. They are genuine batteries and much higher quality and would last years of usage without any problems.. just my opinion..

To tell the truth, I have not been in this hobby long enough to kill any batteries except the cheapos that came with my rifle (don't buy batteries from Lazerer)

I can't speak to their longevity

Yeah.. But then I may as well get an 18650 host :p I think since the KK's are highly praised here Ill just go with those :)

Which would you recommend, the protected or unprotected KK's? :thanks:

protected cells are usually nicer and last longer, but sometimes are a tad longer so they may not fit in all hosts. most of the time unprotected cells are just fine.

I thought due to the PCB most protected batteries have higher internal resistance and are more susceptible to failure.. or am I completely wrong?

If your laser uses two 26650 batteries, you'll need a spacer, at least for the unprotected 4200mAh KK like I have. not sure if any KK have button tops.

I guess opto RPL lasers have built in protection, so unprotected 18650s are better as the batteries own protection becomes redundant and maybe more of a disadvantage, just one more bell/whistle I just learned about. in case anyone reading this has/wants one of those incredible things (RPL)

What spacers do you use for your batteries? Is there any real disadvantage to unprotected cells? the KK unprotected cells are cheaper and have a larger capacity so I thought they were much better value.. :thanks:

Protected cells are really needed if used in series in case one battery dies and and you don't want that battery to get hot or catch fire or in worse case explode, if used one at a time not as important but still better to buy protected cells, although they are always a few mm longer and depending on the host they may not fit or be a very tight squeeze which is dangerous for lithium -ion batteries they are real fussy on damage, temperature and being dropped ...as they can explode there was a plane crash in sept 2010 caused by these batteries exploding and now new regulations are out on transport of these batteries i ordered 26650s a month ago and I'm still waiting ,..sigh

The MS-SSW accepts unprotected batteries. Protected ones are longer, but still can be used but the pill has to be moved a little upwards by unscrewing..

Although wouldnt the unprotecd batteries plus the spacers be approximately the same length as the button top cells?

How hard would be to move the pill? Is there also much tolerance/room for the pill to be moved much? :thanks:
