So I bought one of o-likes newer style 405nm driver , the one that does up the 250ma, and can't get it to work. Ive made some phi pointers using the old style driver and it works fine ... But this new one didn't do so well.

I hooked it to a test load and then to a standard 2x AA battery pack and I couldn't measure anything on the output. I thought matbe the batteries were dead so I went and got some nihm's and tried them but it still didn't work. I took my dmm and measure the voltage on the alkalines and the nihms and they were both fine. In one last effort got a 18650 right out of the charger, measured the voltage and it was 4.21 but I hooked it up and the driver still didnt work.

I double checked my wiring and it was all good, I probed around with my meter found voltage up to the driver and near the first couple resistors and stuff but somewhere (never found a definitive place) power was lost. I looked at every component on the board but nothIng seemed blown. I decided that there must a connection that was broken or something so I added a little solder to spots that seemed lacking and then I reflowed it but it still didn't work.

I talked to Susie about it and she was very nice and gav me a full refund for it without having me mail it back which I highly unexpected so I give her props for that. I'm not sure if this was just a freak thing but I will be cautious ordering one of those again.

I dont want to say anything bad about O-like, they are a great company with great service, I just felt like I should inform you guys of a possible problem with the driver.
Have any of you had good results with the driver?

Re: O-like driver problems.

Wow sorry, my bad.

Thank you for your skillful use of the search bar, you just saved my drivers life
I'm gonna go try it out right now, and maybe build myself a new laser :)

Ohh and to think Susie refunded me when it wasn't actually broken!

No problem.;)
Would be nice to hear if you have success with that driver now.

You can always do the right thing and refund her back, keeps your karma in the green.;)

Yeah I hooked it up the way Iknitsteel2990 said and it worked just fine. I soldered up a phr to it and went to put it into a little pen case I had sitting around but I slipped while pressing in the heatsink into the case a sliced off one of the diodes pins :( it made me so mad I immediately went to hightechdealz and ordered 2 more phr sleds lol

Which pin came off? you might be able to solder the remains of the pin to the case, and get it to work that way. Just a suggestion, and what can it hurt.

It was the negative pin. I did put a blob of solder over it to make it case negative but it won't ever work in my pointer host. I'm just playing around with it jerry-rigged directly to a 18650. If it dies I really don't care, I'm going to have press the diode out anyways and that will destroy it (no axis module, the diode presses right into the heatsink)

It hasn't yet, I think because the voltage is a little lower than what it needs (measured it, 4.03v) It was brighter at 125 ma on the driver than it is now.

Yeah I took it out of a light so it wasnt full. It works fine but I kinda want it to die so I can take it out of the heatsink.

Do You have Flaminpyro's diode tools? His removal press works awesome, and will allow reuse of a diode unless it's dead of course.

No I just use a bit from a torx set that has a hole in the middle just big enough for the diode pins to fit inside. Makes a great press.

how do you plan to remove the Diode? Will you just push it out with something, and if you do will it smash it?

Yeah I'll probably use a screwdriver and a hammer. I doubt it will survive.
