Ultrafire 16340 troubleshooting

Hello,

I've done several builds lately and I've faced a real problem here.

I used a m140 w/ 1,25A driver from DX in c6 host.

When i use two 16340 ultrafire batteries the laser turns on and after 10 seconds it's so dim that seems to be a 5mW laser.

I've connected my psu setted at the same 7,2V to the host (negative on the case and positive on the driver using an aluminium stick) and it's drawing 650mA @ 7,2V from the psu and the laser looks fine for minutes on.

I've heard very bad histories about ultrafire batteries, but i never tought they would be so crappy.

Is the problem only the battery? am i doing something wrong? whats your opinion?


ps: i've tested more then two ultrafire battery sets

I'm going to say that yeah it's most likely just your batteries. I'd get some better ones.

You need to make sure 2 things.

1. Inputs of the DX Drivers are solid connections.
2. Fully charge the batteries to its capacity and measure internal resistance.. If it is more than 200mOhm then most probably you need new batteries.

About the DX Driver, It needs to have SOLID connections otherwise there is a buzzing and driver current will reduce greatly.. ~100-200mA

Those crappy ultrafire cells won't handle that much draw very well. Try using those IMR cells.

I just bought 20 ultrafire 16340 from DX... :cryyy:

i'll try measuring the internal resistance and post the details

What does a solid connections means? It's that round driver that fits the pill, i've not added that solder ball, may that be a problem?

They are sooo expensive, like 4x the price of an ultrafire.

Isn't there some alternative? Like a mid-end battery?

They are just 7 bucks a piece. Don't wanna be rude but what's the point of building a high power laser and using cheap batteries? I remeber IE saying in his post "You don't down a Lambo low octane gas, don't you?". Thiis is exactly what this is.

These cells are your best bet. If you want there are even expensive Panasonic cells available. :eg:

I sell my builds at my family's retail store, I must spend the lowest on the builds.

Is there any site where I can buy 20 of this cells with discount? I can't find any

I'd better post a video. I turn the laser on and it starts to become weaker, power drops really quickly until it looks like a 5mw pen in about 10-20 seconds.

When I get home i'll upload it.

Can you measure the voltage of the 16340 cells ? The DMM can also be used for current measurement at tailcap.

I believe I know the driver you speak of, and it runs off a single cell. Max Vin 4.2V
The power drop is probably the driver heating up from all that voltage
You may have fried it, luckily they are only $1.99

You'll need to use 18650's. I can recommend a dealer for 10x "3000" mAh 18650's and 10x single slot chargers for $42

I'm using a buck driver, it's not that AMC7135.

I was affraid the diode might be dead and I hooked it up to my PSU, it lights very weak and don't go over 200mA.
