Why are there so many jumper pins sticking up? Does each one take off a diode from the circuit or something?

Yep, thats what lets you select they type of diode you want to set the driver for.
This is mine (1 of 2)
I have left the driver pushing 1.5A on this one for over 2 minutes at a time and no heat issues

NO. the reason i have 8 jumpers because the connect i had fit 2 and i dint want it to be wobbly when in use so i add the extra jumpers to hold it secure.
Its ever other jumper that is live the other is just there fro support.
