Re: Designing Super Simple 1.5A Red Laser Drive Run Off 1 Cell ( 2 Components Only )

Are you going to share which chip you are using? :D ;)

Considering his location, even if revealed it may not be able to be sourced

I am so sorry but so far I am not going to make it open source yet.

Re: Designing Super Simple 1.5A Red Laser Drive Run Off 1 Cell ( 2 Components Only )

Wait then why did you post it? Bragging rights?

Hi basic I open this thread asking for suggestion on modding the circuit

As you can see there are two version one is using PMOS as protection mosfet another one is using NMOS. I am not quite sure which one will be better.

Further modification will be adding a input and output cap. I don't know whether they are necessary because the original schematic doesn't have one.

I am so sorry if I misunderstood anything.

Hi basic I open this thread asking for suggestion on modding the circuit.

Its next to impossible to provide suggestions on modding the circuit without knowing how exactly does the IC function. The information of which can only be sourced by referencing the IC's data sheet. A design only becomes proprietary when the circuit is original.

I am assuming both pmos and nmos will work i am not familiar with laser driver but I made myself some guitar pedal with mosfet polarity protection before.

You are little bit radical on what you said. It doesn't not have to be open source in order to post his own design here right? Not everyone willing to reveal everything especially when they have take effort on finding a suitable IC for their need.

You want advice on the IC, but you won't tell us which IC?

No problem I thought the problem I am asking is all about the outer circuit. I will experiment both circuit and reported back. Thanks for your help.

Definitely helps! I decided to try out both and decide which to go.

This chip look like a linear regulator to me (no inductor). I think output cap is not really necessary as linear regulator do not generate EMI like switch regulator do. And since you are using low voltage DC input. Input cap can also be omitted but paralleled 10uf and 0.1uf couple can be added if you wish. ;)

I maybe missing something, but I don't see how the regulator can sense the current of the LD. If this is the case, it really isn't a current regulator.

That REALLY depends on what the IC is, sir.

"Can this couch fit in my car?"
"How big is your car?"
"That's classified. Just tell me if it'll fit."

 look like you want to reveal the IC so bad. He say he will experiment himself and didn't insist asking for help after people say more info is needed. Why don't respect his decision?

disapproved for neg-reping someone unreasonably

@LaserFever
Good to learn. Don't post interesting discovery before you become famous here (unless you will make it public) :D

Its not a linear driver, its more like a current adjustable power switch, like FPF2125 for example. Kind of like a MOSFET switch that doesn't require its own power supply. I'm a particular fan of the FPF2125 because the current limit blanking time before shutdown is infinite, so I can set any current from 0.15-1.5A and run the load wide open and it will regulate the current for me.
