Are all IMR batteries capable of high discharge?
I want to get some batteries capable of these higher currents, but don't really want to pay AW prices for them.

I am assuming he is referring to 16340 and 18350 sizes as that is what fits most the kits he provides. I have also been on the lookout for a better price on those but it is hard enough just to find dealers of them. I'll let you know if i stumble across any affordable ones.

This is the first I hear of these IMR batteries...
(probably because I don't build lasers...:p)

I just read this.... (it's an electronic cigarette Forum)

Protected batteries vs IMR - safety

They seem to immediately self destruct if you short them...
and they die if they are discharged too low or charged
too high...

There must be protected IMR types available in the sizes we
need for Laser builds... Anyone have better/more info on these
IMR batteries....:thinking:

You do not need IMR if you know Li-ion new technologies.



Panasonic NCR 18650A can be shorted (positive-wire-negative) for 1 hour = no excessive heat, no some crazy reactions, and after one hour you can use it again.

Do not try this on your own !

The unprotected AW IMR 22500 (or 26500?) that I own is truly a scary cell. If you shorted it with the silicon wire we use in builds, I think it would vaporize the silicon coating in a few seconds.

This one is not pretty when you short it. 100A+ discharge rate. I could weld with this bad boy.:eg: LiFePO4 38120P (M size) Cell: 3.2V 10 Ah, 100A Surge Rate, 32Wh with 6M screw Terminal - UN Approved (3.0)

^ I don't know about the "no excessive heat" but I recall a video of (I believe) a Panasonic 18650 long term short. I'm sure Brenner will chime in about it, unless I'm losing it. :undecided:
