Default i need 5v, but how?

iŽd like to build a wide beam 200mW red laser dazzler, so i read i need a laser module with TTL Modulation.

i found several that would suit my needs but some are 12v and some are 5v, used with a 220v adapter.

ofcourse my dazzler would have to be a handheld unit. the mechanical side of building a nice waterproof host and stuff is no problem, but i dont have much experience with changing voltages.
only electric experience i have is cars and household wiring.

so can anyone explain how i can use such a 5v TTL laser module with batteries? how much mAH would i need, which batteries and how many?

i hope someone can help me with this, i really canŽt afford the prices of those professional dazzlers.

why trouble? there are several similar lazer dazzlers for sale to the general public.
even the ones the US army uses on rifles are legal for sale to civilians, at crazy prices. and they are only allowed because it is proven they dont cause permanent damage.
so i guess that shouldnt be a problem.

Its still laser light, and laser light is still dangerous even in low powers, its not like you would stare into a 5mW pointer and expect to come away with no eye damage. Also, red is not a good color for a dazzler, green is a better option because it is so much more visible compared to other available wavelengths.

The ones they put on rifles and stuff are tested and regulated (Still wouldn't shine one in my face)

I think you should just get a flashlight with a ton of throw, they can be pretty blinding and you can still use it as a flashlight

Is it just me or does the topic of laser dazzlers come up more often than it should?

The result always seems to be the same. They simply aren't safe to build and probably are not ethical or as effective as other self-defense tools.

Why do you want a laser dazzler anyway, flip?

I tested one one myself by making a huge diverange from my green laser with a lens and bouncing of a mirror. All it does is mess up your color cone vision for a bit and imo it is an ineffective tool unless you have something else to take them by surprise with. Which begs the question why have one in the first place if that's the case? Can you get a BB pistol cause I feel that would be a much better way to go. If not get a spot light with a fast strobe and high lumens if you really want to do this. I have a 85watt HID light with 2 strobes and one is real fast and would literally mess up your vision temporary like you looked at the sun. The plus side is you could hit the person with it too. These are just my thoughts and suggestions.
