Well, if the linear driver is good, with your 3,6V, you must be able to get enough current for the red diode (anyway, remember that a DVD burner diode isn't too much powerful)

Where u from man? i have a few spare red im not using..

I'm in the interior of Alaska. I have not been hitting the local transfer sites looking for DVD burners getting tossed as it's currently -23*F and only expected to get colder. I'll wait till spring before I start searching for them too hard.

....time to build a 445nm 1w+ and go ice sculpting :)

Ehm ..... ice is a good medium, for reflections and refractions ..... wonderful light effects, but sometimes, a bit too much dangerous, with a 1W laser  ..... ;)

Wow....dude thats scary cold....time to build a 445nm 1w+ and go ice sculpting :)

It's not too bad till it's about -40*, then I've gotta really worry about the truck not starting (Diesel). You get used to it as it is a really dry cold.

As for ice sculptures, I'll skip doing it with a laser, the chainsaw, iron & soldering gear works just fine for those interested. I have yet to hear of anyone attempting it with a laser and we do hold a world competition in February here in town (temps typically a high of -25*).

Temps above are without wind as we rarely have it, so no windchills!
