Yo guys,

Havent been active in lasers for a few years now and would like to get started again.

Im looking for a driver to output ~1A from a single cell.

Preferably a cheap one with a spring attached to it already :p

So i came across these two:

445 450nm 0 3 1W Laser Diode Drive | eBay

450nm 445nm 473nm Blue Laser Diode Driver 1W 1 4W 3 7 4 2VDC in Power Supply | eBay

Though Im not sure how much they really put out, especially the first one since it doesnt have a pot.

Which one would you prefer and do you have any experience with them ?

Greets,
Machro

Unfortunately the concept of "cheap" and "reliable laser drivers" don't usually go together...

If the listings are correct then both drivers are boost drivers and should work fine with a single cell setup. Although it's your risk, personally I would use a quality boost driver that has been proven reliable. You're going to spend 50 bucks on the diode, why not spend an extra $15 for a good driver?

Is there such a big difference between Boost LED an LD drivers when they both output a decent current and boost voltage ?
Or are you just talking about quality issues ?

Led drivers tend to spike when first turned on and can have a lot of current ripples. Leds can take this abuse. Lds cant. Good ld drivers have "soft start".
