No matter what black is ALWAYS in COM.

Red goes in DC10A ONLY when measuring amperage.

ALL other times, when measuring voltage, resistance, etc. red goes in the socket all the way to the right. Red also goes in the port all the way to the right if you are measuring amperages less than 200ma. That is the ONLY time you will measure amperage in the socket to the right, any time amperage is greater than 200ma you use DC10A.

Two rules of thumb:

- Put leads in like-colored sockets
- The "maximum rating" designation on the socket usually indicates the type of measurement that is being metered (e.g. 10A DC for current, 300V for voltage)
