Another boost driver thread

2A Out @ >5V !!

I used a 18350 cell in the photo. I'll tune the loop compensation circuit and check efficiency later. I will also get oscilloscope screenshots of everything that is important when the circuit is finalized. But for now I'm happy that it works with much smaller components than my other circuits.

The circuit was not designed to work with voltages below 3V.

Here is a video clip showing current regulation. In the video I didn't drop the voltage below 3.2V as the power supply current started to max out there.

There seems to be about 10-20mA variation in output current over the 3.2-4.2V range. I'm still trying to figure out why...

Efficiency is around 82% at 3.7V input.

3.7A @ 3.2V, I can do that. Quite frankly, I'm glad it doesn't go down to 2.7V. :beer:

If you are actually going to produce these, might I suggest a low voltage cutoff function? I'm assuming these were meant to power a load off of a single Lithium secondary source? You wouldn't want it allowing the cell to drain at rates higher than what is safe for the cell. I.e. at <3V, does it just cut out completely, or does it keep trying to boost?

TO OP that driver looks very cool allot of the flexdrive alternatives we have seen are much less stable as the voltage input drops. i look forward to seeing the final product...sorry for rudely derailing your thread i think all of us can delete posts if you wish as IMO this issue is resolved...

Don't worry about the off-topic posts.

I'm going to be offline for about two weeks, but then it's back to business. I'm receiving more parts then and will be refining the design some more. I do hope this design will be much cheaper than two flexdrives for 445nm high power builds. I will see about low voltage cut-off. It should be possible. It is just hard trying to get an efficient driver that will fit on a small pcb, and being able to deal with heat and poor power sources.

Does anyone know what the highest input power for a single 445nm diode has been to date?

I'm using Linear Technologies ic's.

1.8 amps is the max people push these diodes so X-1.8 amps would work fine I guess
